AI-Driven Microplastic Detection in Ocean Using Drone Imaging

- Designed and trained a YOLOv8 object detection model combined with Mask R-CNN instance segmentation, achieving 91.3% mAP@50, 89.6% precision, and 85.2% recall on a custom-annotated test set.
- Built the full data pipeline: curated and labelled a custom drone-image dataset in COCO format, and applied OpenCV-based image enhancement plus Albumentations-based augmentation to improve generalisation across lighting and water-clarity conditions.
- Trained and benchmarked the model on an NVIDIA Tesla T4 GPU (Google Colab Pro) using PyTorch and TensorFlow, reaching real-time inference speeds of 35ms per image suitable for UAV deployment.
Smart Agriculture IoT System
- Designed and built an IoT-based automated irrigation system using an Arduino Uno, soil moisture sensor, relay module, and water pump, removing the need for manual field checks.
- Programmed real-time sensor logic in C (Arduino IDE) to automatically trigger irrigation when soil moisture dropped below a set threshold, with live status shown on a 16x2 LCD display.
