Responsibilities
- Lead power-flow, stability, reliability, performance, generation interconnection, and facility addition studies of the AES Ohio distribution system. Lead engineer for specific geographic planning area.
- Lead distribution model building activities.
- Direct system modeling activities and participate in developing strategies, business rules, planning standards, and operating protocols.
- Lead distribution project development with engineers in System Operations, field crews, Engineering, and Asset Management in performing analyses and providing technical support in planning and operational environments.
- Manage technical projects having significant impact on the design, engineering, and operation of the distribution system.
- Conducts distribution system analyses to determine the requirements of the system and ensure its continued reliable operation.
- Present distribution expansion projects to internal stakeholders for review.
- Manage relationships and coordinate work of external engineers. business consultants, and vendors. Define work scope for specific engagements. Manage efforts and assess performance.
- Support annual development of the capital forecast in support of corporate and business unit strategy, in a manner which effectively organizes and addresses customer and public projects, planned system improvements, system reliability, equipment troubles, facilities rehabilitation, and other capital work. Effectively coordinate needs and support of planning groups and other engineering, operations, construction, and maintenance groups engaged in or affected by capital improvements. In addition, assist in development of project estimates and internal budgets for assigned activities.
- Work with AES Ohio Leadership to draft long-term distribution strategy and policy plans.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university required, preferably with an emphasis in power systems.
- Team player
- Strong analytical skills, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficient presentation skills, diplomacy and facilitation skills covering large and small group forums ranging from technical to non-technical audiences at all levels of corporate hierarchy.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Pursuit of Professional Engineer (P.E.) license also preferred.
- Excellent communication, collaboration and influencing skills at all levels of the organization
- Two (2) or more years of distribution planning or similar experience with an understanding of power flow modeling preferred
- Track record of leading and managing teams and delivering against tight deadlines in fast-paced and demanding environments.
- Highly motivated self-starter with the ability and willingness to take initiative and champion process improvement
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as reliability, load flow, stability, short circuit, voltage regulation, transients, power factor, losses, etc.
