A path for every ambition.
At HUB, we believe the best work happens when people are given real space to grow and then given the autonomy to exercise it. We power progress and protect ambition: for the clients who count on us, and equally for the people who make that possible every day.
We’re creative thinkers and determined doers, guided by values that show up in how we work together: with empathy, adaptability, accountability and a genuine commitment to one another’s success. We foster bold ideas, celebrate curiosity and share what we know. Because when people grow, the work they do grows with them.
Our purpose is deeply human: to help people navigate the world on their terms, at their speed, toward their future. We hold that same commitment to the people building careers here.
Whether you’re starting out or leveling up, you’ll find the resources to evolve, the support to take on more and a team ready to back you at every stage.
Your ambition has a home here.
ABOUT US
At HUB International, we are a team of entrepreneurs. We believe in protecting and supporting the aspirations of individuals, families, and businesses. We help our clients evaluate their risks and develop solutions tailored to their needs. We believe in empowering our employees to learn, grow, and make a difference. Our structure enables our teams to maintain their own unique, regional culture while leveraging support and resources from our corporate centers of excellence.
HUB is a global insurance and employee benefits broker, providing a boundaryless array of business insurance, employee benefits, risk services, personal insurance, retirement, and private wealth management products and services. With over $5 billion in revenue and almost 20,000 employees in 600 offices throughout North America, HUB has grown substantially, in part due to our industry leading success in mergers and acquisitions.
HUB is seeking an AI Engineer to join the RPA & Automation team within our centralized technology organization, part of HUB’s AI & Automation organization. This is a hands-on build role responsible for designing, building, and shipping production-grade AI applications that deliver measurable value across HUB’s business lines. The role builds on the Claude AI platform: creating reusable skills and plug-ins, composing them into governed AI applications, standing up retrieval over governed enterprise data, and owning the AI asset platform through which these capabilities reach the business. HUB runs Claude as its primary model today, and the stack is expected to evolve toward agentic systems. The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with direct, hands-on experience building and shipping AI applications, skills, and plug-ins in a governed, regulated environment, who is productive from the first weeks and ready to grow into agent development.
The AI Engineer professionalizes experimental AI prototypes into governed, tested, enterprise-ready applications, and owns the enterprise standards and governance for HUB’s skills, plug-ins, and MCP wherever they are used across HUB. The role scales these capabilities to the business through HUB’s native AI ecosystem. The team builds the simple to moderate skills, plug-ins, and MCP connections directly. Where a build requires deep engineering, such as net-new backend, new infrastructure, or complex integration, Enterprise Engineering executes it to the team standard and returns it to the catalog to be governed and published.
Build AI Applications
•Build reusable skills and package them as plug-ins, then compose them into governed AI applications that HUB business lines use
•Configure and tune foundational models (Claude, Gemini) for HUB use cases, with system and prompt design
•Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, and multi-step workflows over governed enterprise data
•Take business-built AI prototypes and productionize them into reliable, governed applications
Own the AI Asset Platform
•Own and govern the skill and plug-in marketplace and the MCP catalog: intake, publish, version, and maintain
•Set and enforce the enterprise standards and governance for skills, plug-ins, and MCP wherever they are used across HUB, on any surface including Claude Code, and including builds executed by other engineering teams
•Does not build or operate the Claude Code developer-guardrail layer day to day; that is Enterprise Engineering’s, built against the standard this role sets
•Apply access control, least-privilege, and audit to AI assets, partnering with Security and Cloud on identity and credentials
•Build simple to moderate skills, plug-ins, and MCP connections directly; route complex builds that need new infrastructure or deep integration to Enterprise Engineering, then govern and publish the result
Quality, Evaluation, and Governance
•Stand up evaluation harnesses, golden-set testing, guardrails, monitoring, and logging so AI output is consistent and reliable at enterprise scale
•Provide production support for the skills, plug-ins, and applications the team releases
Collaboration and Delivery
•Partner with business stakeholders to turn rough, prototyped ideas into production-ready, governed capabilities
•Partner with Enterprise Engineering and data teams to ship reliably and to route deep builds appropriately
•Work within Agile ceremonies and document skills, applications, and technical decisions for handoff, audit, and maintenance
•5+ years of software or automation engineering, including 2+ years building and shipping LLM-backed applications to production
•Direct, recent, hands-on experience building and publishing Claude skills or plug-ins; broad LLM or framework experience without shipped skills and plug-ins is not sufficient
•Strong Python, REST APIs, and enterprise integration, with sound fundamentals in testing, version control, and monitoring
•Hands-on experience with foundational models: system and prompt design, skill and tool building, function and tool calling
•Retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, and vector stores, with chunking and reranking
•Evaluation and monitoring for LLM systems, with a working feel for cost, latency, and reliability tradeoffs
•Experience operating inside a regulated enterprise, with security, governance, and access control as part of normal delivery
•Cloud experience (Azure or GCP / Vertex AI)
•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
•Agent development and orchestration (LangGraph, CrewAI, Claude Agent SDK), the growth path for this role
•Model Context Protocol (MCP) design and agent-to-agent patterns
•Identity and access concepts: RBAC, non-human or agent identity, and least privilege
•UiPath or Power Platform exposure
•Insurance or financial services industry experience
•Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software engineering practices, and tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps
•Genuine software engineering depth rather than prompt-only development
•Systems thinking, designing for consistency, resilience, and enterprise scale
•Clear technical communication with both engineers and non-technical business stakeholders
•Accountability and ownership for quality, stability, and delivery
•Curiosity and adaptability as the AI stack evolves toward agents
•Collaborative mindset across analysts, architects, business partners, and Enterprise Engineering
At HUB International, we’re invested in your success, both inside and outside of work. Our benefits include:
•Competitive base salary plus performance-based bonus
•Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
•401(k) with company match
•Paid time off and company holidays
•Hybrid work arrangement based out of our Chicago office
•Professional development and certification reimbursement
•Opportunity to shape HUB’s enterprise AI application and asset platform and build across a modern stack spanning Claude, RAG, and agentic tooling
