Department:
Department of Music
https://music.uark.edu
Summary of Job Duties:
The Department of Music in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Bassoon to start in August 2027. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.
We seek a candidate with a developing national reputation as performer and educator to teach the undergraduate and graduate bassoon studio, to coach chamber music, and perform with The Lyrique Quintette, the resident woodwind chamber ensemble at the University of Arkansas. The successful candidate will also be responsible for recruiting and maintaining a bassoon studio, while maintaining an active profile as a performing artist and teacher. Preference will be given to candidates with secondary expertise in Music Industry, which may include arts administration, music production, organizational leadership or entrepreneurship. Other teaching responsibilities may be assigned depending on the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional musicianship, rehearsal and leadership skills, and demonstrate potential for scholarly and/or creative distinction. Effective communication, collegiality, and a cooperative spirit are essential.
Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental service, curriculum development, and scholarly or creative activity consistent with rank and university expectations. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs.
This is an in-person position, not a remote position. Most university classes are offered face-to-face, and extensive in-person engagement in such activities as office hours, student advising, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings is essential to advancing student success and departmental effectiveness.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
