You will be empowered to shape project outcomes through rigorous governance, agile risk management, and extensive upfront planning, all while collaborating with diverse stakeholders and contributing to organisational change. MUFG offers a supportive environment that values teamwork, knowledge sharing, and professional growth, making this role ideal for someone who thrives in a communal setting and is committed to delivering quality results. With flexible working opportunities and access to training programmes, you will have the chance to develop your skills further while being part of a network that encourages inter-personal connections and nurtures talent.

* Join a globally renowned financial institution with a strong commitment to collaborative working, offering you exposure to complex finance and data transformation projects across multiple business units.

* Benefit from flexible working arrangements, ongoing training opportunities, and generous pension contributions as you grow your career within an inclusive and supportive leadership environment.

* Work alongside knowledgeable teams in a networked structure where your input is valued, your development is supported, and your achievements are recognised through communal success.

What you'll do:

As an Assistant Vice President Project Manager Finance Portfolio at MUFG in London, you will be entrusted with overseeing the full lifecycle of complex finance projects from initiation through closure. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve meticulous planning of individual projects—ranging from IT transformations like database creation or system migration to organisational changes such as new procedures or regulatory assessments. You will be expected to manage resources efficiently according to established protocols, engage stakeholders across departments for consensus building, and implement effective governance structures that ensure transparency throughout each phase. By structuring detailed project plans with actionable milestones and providing timely updates via central PMO reporting tools, you will maintain clarity on progress for both technical experts and broader business audiences. Your role also includes mentoring junior colleagues, supporting strategic portfolio delivery forums, collaborating with cross-functional teams for outcome achievement, managing third-party vendors under procurement policies, and ensuring all documentation meets compliance standards. Success in this position requires proactive risk mitigation before blockers arise, continuous improvement of processes for enhanced efficiency, diligent management of steering committees and working groups within governance parameters, and maintaining accurate records for executive reporting. Ultimately, you will be instrumental in driving benefit realisation aligned with long-term business objectives while upholding MUFG’s values of dependability, collaboration, and inclusivity.

* Plan, direct, and govern multiple projects within the Finance portfolio by ensuring comprehensive upfront planning, agile risk management strategies, and adherence to rigorous governance frameworks for quality outcomes.

* Scope each project individually and establish clear delivery plans for both IT-related initiatives such as system migrations or application enhancements, as well as non-IT projects including process redesigns or regulatory impact assessments.

* Manage un-resourced roles according to published rules and timelines while minimising escalation except for valid exceptions such as critical skill re-prioritisation on project paths.

* Engage all stakeholders effectively by influencing business decisions where relevant for optimal project benefit realisation and establishing robust project governance using prescribed guidelines.

* Create baseline plans and oversee project delivery to ensure alignment with agreed scope and timelines; proactively re-plan and raise change controls when necessary without breaching approved budgets or schedules.

* Provide change management expertise to resolve conflicts, mitigate risks associated with change, and advise the business on key decisions relating to project adjustments.

* Structure project plans with meaningful milestones following established frameworks so that regular reporting provides transparency on progress for all stakeholders including those not specialised in every aspect of the project.

* Deliver accurate point-in-time reporting generated from golden source tools such as General Ledger and PPM systems to keep all stakeholders informed with current data.

* Mentor junior project managers by fostering team contribution through regular quality updates related to projects and supporting portfolio/program managers in strategic delivery.

* Collaborate closely with functional or business stakeholders to achieve clear outcomes within the portfolio book of work while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

What you bring:

To excel as an Assistant Vice President Project Manager Finance Portfolio at MUFG, you will bring substantial experience managing end-to-end projects within financial institutions—demonstrating dependability through successful delivery against stringent timelines and budgets. Your background should include handling finance transformation initiatives as well as regulatory-driven projects where attention to detail is paramount. You are adept at investment budget management: forecasting costs accurately; controlling commitments versus approvals; executing change controls seamlessly. Your interpersonal skills enable you to collaborate across resource supply teams securing necessary capacity without unnecessary escalation. As a subject matter expert in project management methodologies (including waterfall/agile), you are comfortable resolving issues swiftly while advising on change risks. You possess strong governance capabilities—designing frameworks for programme oversight; producing insightful reports for executive committees; maintaining RAID logs diligently. Document management is second nature: you ensure artefacts are structured consistently for audit readiness. Closing out programmes thoroughly—with all risks addressed—is part of your disciplined approach. Ideally, you have deep knowledge of banking regulations plus experience running regulatory projects which adds value when navigating compliance landscapes. Your communication prowess allows you to influence senior leaders persuasively while nurturing junior talent through coaching/mentoring activities. Managing large workloads under pressure comes naturally thanks to your calm demeanour combined with excellent numerical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Project/Office suite.

* Minimum 6–10 years proven track record delivering projects within financial institutions on time and within budget demonstrating reliability in complex environments.

* Experience managing finance and data transformation projects as well as regulatory initiatives showcasing your ability to navigate multifaceted portfolios.

* Expertise in investment budget management including accurate forecasting of cost categories; controlling actuals versus approved budgets; implementing budget change controls at individual project levels.

* Ability to secure resource capacity across supply teams ensuring timely delivery without crisis escalation except in rare cases requiring critical skillsets.

* Subject matter expertise in project management covering multiple unrelated projects simultaneously; resolving conflicts; mitigating change risks; advising businesses on strategic decisions.

* Proven experience designing programme governance structures; delivering regular reports to portfolio committees or senior executive forums; maintaining committee terms of reference; managing RAID logs effectively.

* Strong document management skills ensuring consistent artefact structuring for ease of reference by second/third line defence teams or Central PMO audits.

* Demonstrated capability closing projects cleanly with all open items risk accepted or resolved within budget constraints reflecting thoroughness in completion processes.
