This team drives financial discipline, operational rigour and strategic alignment across the ES portfolio that safeguard GSK’s integrity and reputation globally. By joining this team, you’ll help shape systems that support thousands of employees worldwide, driving innovation and reliability in the tools that keep GSK moving forward.
Job Purpose:
The Enterprise Systems Business Operations, Associate Director leads the financial management, operational performance and business rhythm of the Enterprise Systems function, sitting between strategic ownership and operational delivery by holding the financial business operations components of the operating model — working with the Director to set direction and standards — while leading the hands-on delivery of the cycles, controls, finance processes, and reporting that put them into practice.
In partnership with the Enterprise Systems Finance Business Partner, the Associate Director builds the cost transparency, data quality and support that turn financial and operational data into the actionable insight leadership relies on for business decisions, resource planning and continuous improvement across the Enterprise Systems portfolio — while keeping the function's own financial processes efficient and audit ready.
They work closely with business stakeholders to define outcomes and ensure that headcount, vendor spend and programme budgets are managed effectively, and that the Enterprise Systems function is equipped to meet its commitments within agreed financial guardrails.
This role is based in India with UK working business hours. It operates under GSK's "Performance with Choice" hybrid working approach, typically expecting 2–3 days per week in the office, with the specific pattern agreed between the successful candidate and their manager based on role and team needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the Enterprise Systems budget and forecast cycle, running the monthly and quarterly financial cycles to the enterprise finance timetable, collecting and quality-checking inputs from domain teams, and bringing variances to leadership with supporting evidence and recommended actions.
- Serve as the primary finance and operational business partner to Enterprise Systems leadership and product teams — providing proactive financial analysis, operational insight on trends, and issue resolution to support prioritisation and decision-making, giving analysts and vendors the clear, high-quality information they need to deliver consistent outcomes, and constructively challenging non-strategic requests to keep focus on agreed business outcomes.
- Own the consolidated view of Enterprise Systems spend across run, change, and invest categories — including internal headcount costs, external vendor and managed service contracts, software licences, and capital expenditure — and the allocation and recharging approach, so that financial, portfolio and performance reporting reconcile to one source of truth.
- Develop cost transparency for Enterprise Systems — cost per product, service and capability, plus vendor and contractor spend — supported by a maturity roadmap, so that unit cost insight informs value-based decision making and spending behaviour.
- Drive the operational management of the Enterprise Systems vendor and contract portfolio, tracking commitments against plan and ensuring accurate purchase order creation, invoice approval, accruals management, and contract renewal tracking in partnership with Product Owners and Procurement & Legal teams.
- Lead finance reporting, data quality and controls across Enterprise Systems budgeting, procurement and resource management — designing and maintaining source data, templates, dashboards and business intelligence tools so reporting is repeatable and does not depend on individual effort, that keeps the function compliant with GSK financial controls, procurement policies and audit requirements.
- Partner with Enterprise Systems Leadership and HR Business Partners to manage headcount planning, contractor and contingent worker governance, role change processes, and workforce cost tracking, including reporting the funded position against actual headcount.
- Initiate continuous improvement in financial processes, reporting tools, and operational workflows within the Enterprise Systems function, partnering with technology, finance business partners and process owners to design and improve end-to-end processes, and delivering automation and simplification opportunities that reduce manual effort in recurring cycles and improve data quality.
- Run the operating rhythm for Enterprise Systems — coordinating the business planning cycle, scheduling sessions, following actions through to closure — and support the Director in preparing materials for senior leadership meetings, business reviews, and governance forums, ensuring financial and operational content is accurate, well-structured, and presented at the right level of detail.
- Be the subject matter expert on Enterprise Systems financial processes, tooling, and data, providing guidance to the broader team and support the accurate and timely completion of required financial processes.
- Be a proactive user of approved AI tools and analytics to speed up consolidation, variance analysis and management reporting, role-modelling responsible use and following GSK's Responsible AI, privacy and security requirements.
Required Skills & Qualification:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, accounting, business, economics or information systems, or equivalent experience.
- 15+ years in technology finance, finance business partnering, business operations or management roles.
- Experience running monthly and quarterly financial cycles (forecast, variance analysis, period-end) to a fixed finance timetable.
- Experience owning technology budgets and forecasts covering headcount, vendor spend and capital and operating costs, including tracking commitments, accruals and purchases.
- Experience bringing financial and operational data from several teams into one reliable view, with strong attention to data quality.
- Experience building cost transparency reporting (unit cost, vendor and contractor spend, funded versus actual headcount) and using it to guide spending decisions.
- Experience working with financial controls, audit requirements and procurement processes, including purchase orders, invoice approval and contract renewals.
- Experience acting as a trusted partner to senior leaders, and setting standards for teams outside direct control, in a matrix organisation and with external vendors.
- Experience supporting business cases and workforce planning (headcount, contractors and role changes).
- Familiarity with automation or simplification of recurring reporting, including the use of AI.
- Professional certifications desirable (e.g., a part qualified or qualified accounting or financial management qualification, FinOps, Technology Business Management, Lean Six Sigma).
Preferred Skills:
- Clear communication and influencing skills, able to explain financial information to non-finance audiences at all levels, in English.
- Strong analysis and modelling skills, able to build forecasts, cost models and business cases that stand up to senior scrutiny, with close attention to data quality.
- Well organised, able to deliver recurring cycles reliably to fixed deadlines while managing several workstreams at once.
- Proactive and commercially minded, able to spot risks and opportunities, bring recommendations to senior leaders, and challenge spend and non-strategic requests constructively, including without direct authority.
- Comfortable working within governance, compliance and internal control frameworks, meeting GSK policies and audit standards.
- Able to balance strategic and operational demands: setting direction while staying close enough to the detail to lead delivery, coach a team and automate repetitive work.
