Anderson University’s Office of Counseling Services and Thrive Wellness invites applications for a full-time, 11-month position as Associate Director of Student Athlete Mental Wellness. The Associate Director of Student Athlete Mental Wellness will provide comprehensive mental health, wellness, and performance support to Anderson University student-athletes while collaborating closely with coaches, Sports Medicine, Athletic Trainers, and other university partners. The Associate Director will provide individual counseling, mental skills training, and mental performance interventions, as well as develop and facilitate educational programs focused on mental health, wellness, prevention, and performance. The position will collaborate with Sports Medicine staff regarding student-athlete mental health screenings, provide consultation and referrals for specialized care, and maintain communication with external treatment providers as appropriate. This role also contributes to the broader student-athlete experience by participating in recruiting visits, attending practices and athletic events, and building meaningful relationships with student-athletes and athletic teams. Additional responsibilities include clinical documentation, case consultation, team compliance meetings, coaches’ and Athletic Trainers’ meetings, university-wide student-athlete programs, and other duties as assigned. The position requires flexibility to support occasional evening and weekend activities as needed.

Knowledge equivalent to that gained through a master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or a related field and 3–5 years of progressive counseling experience, preferably working with student-athletes or college-aged students, is preferred. Professional licensure or eligibility for licensure in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or a related discipline in the State of South Carolina is preferred. A bachelor’s degree and certification or specialized training in Mental Performance Consulting, sport psychology, or a related area are required. Strong organizational, communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills are essential, along with the ability to work professionally and confidentially with students, families, faculty, and staff.
