Multiple Casual opportunities based at St Lucia Campus
As a Casual Security Officer, you will provide professional and responsive security services across UQ's St Lucia Campus.
The St Lucia security team supports a large-scale 24/7 operation, with officers responding to incidents, conducting patrols, securing buildings, assisting staff, students and visitors, monitoring security systems, and supporting emergency responses through the University's Emergency Operations Centre.
You will play an important role in maintaining a safe and welcoming campus environment while delivering high quality customer service and exercising sound judgement in a dynamic operational setting.
Key responsibilities include:
Responding to alarms, medical emergencies, fire emergencies and other incidents.
Conducting campus patrols and securing University buildings and grounds.
Providing access to authorised personnel.
Monitoring security systems and supporting operations within the Emergency Operations Centre.
Responding professionally to enquiries and concerns from staff, students and visitors.
Escalating urgent or high-priority matters to the Security Supervisor.
Supporting the enforcement of parking and traffic regulations.
Conducting preliminary investigations as directed.
Preparing clear, detailed and accurate incident reports.
Performing other reasonable duties as directed by the security leadership team.
You will be a calm, reliable and professional security officer who can confidently make decisions in a busy operational environment and provide exceptional service to a diverse university community.
To be eligible, you must hold:
A current Queensland Certificate II in Security Operations, including Security Officer Unarmed, Crowd Control, Bodyguard and Monitoring units.
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.
HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
A current Queensland manual open driver licence.
Well-developed knowledge of security methodologies and practices.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Confidence using security monitoring systems and related technologies.
The ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain appropriate records.
Sound judgement and effective decision-making skills.
The ability to work independently and as part of a 24/7 operational team.
Professionalism, tact and restraint when managing challenging situations.
Experience responding to emergency or operational incidents.
A genuine commitment to providing a safe and welcoming campus environment.
Successful applicants must be available to attend an initial five-week period of full-time training.
Following completion of training, any work offered will be casual and based on operational requirements. The training requirement does not mean that ongoing full-time hours will be available.
The successful candidate will be required to complete background checks including verification of their right to work in Australia and a criminal history check.
You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
