Liberty Global is looking for an exceptional Chief Executive Officer to lead a new business currently being incubated within Liberty Global.

This is not an established business looking for its next leader. It is a start-up.

The proposition is being developed, the foundations are being built and we’re now looking for the CEO who can take it through launch, prove the model and build it into a successful, scalable business.

You’ll have the backing, expertise and reach of Liberty Global, but you’ll need the mindset of a founder: comfortable starting with a blank sheet of paper, making decisions with incomplete information, building a team and operating model from the ground up, and staying close enough to the detail to make things happen.

It’s a rare opportunity to combine the pace, ownership and ambiguity of a start-up with the backing of an established international business.

The opportunity

As CEO, you’ll have end-to-end accountability for taking the business from incubation through launch and into its next stage of growth.

You will:

• Build the business: turn the proposition and strategic ambition into a clear business plan, operating model and organisation.
• Lead the launch: bring together product, technology, commercial and operational capabilities to successfully take the business to market.
• Prove and scale the model: use customer and commercial insight to validate the proposition, make smart choices and determine where to invest.
• Own commercial performance: take accountability for growth, financial performance, investment decisions and resource allocation.
• Create the organisation: recruit and lead a high-performing leadership team and build the capabilities the business needs as it grows.
• Build for scale: establish the systems, governance, disciplines and operating rhythms needed to move from start-up to scaled business.
• Develop opportunities for growth: identify new partnerships, markets and commercial opportunities as the business develops.
• Lead with pace and discipline: balance entrepreneurial thinking and rapid execution with strong governance, risk management and operational resilience.
• Engage at the highest level: work closely with Liberty Global leadership, venture sponsors, shareholders and strategic partners.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for a builder, not simply a custodian.

Someone who has experienced the reality of creating and scaling something new: the ambiguity, pace, trade-offs and hands-on leadership that come with building a start-up.

You’ll bring:

• Significant leadership experience within a digital, technology-enabled, fintech, marketplace or subscription business
• A strong track record of building, launching and/or scaling a start-up, venture or high-growth business
• Commercial leadership experience with meaningful accountability for growth and business performance
• The ability to move comfortably between strategy and execution
• Experience leading across product, technology, commercial and operational disciplines
• Strong judgement and the ability to make decisions when there isn’t a perfect answer
• The credibility to operate with senior executives, Boards, investors and external partners
• A customer-led, commercially sharp and data-driven approach

Experience of consumer digital businesses, fintech, marketplaces, regulated environments or scaling across multiple markets would be particularly valuable.

The person

This role will suit someone who gets energy from building.

You’re entrepreneurial without being chaotic. You move quickly, but know when rigour matters. You can create a compelling vision and then roll up your sleeves to make it real.

You build great teams, create clarity where there isn’t any and are comfortable being personally accountable for the outcome.

Most importantly, you want to build the next business, not simply run the last one.
