We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that’s energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently – we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it and mend it.
About your team:
At Centrica Energy, our mission is to move it.
We’re energy movers by nature. We’re a global renewable energy trading company which helps move energy from source to use – powering businesses, homes, and societies as they transition to a new sustainable energy future. If the idea of working to create a sustainable energy future also moves you, we may very well be the right place for you.
Great platforms should make it easier for people to build, deploy and improve products, without requiring every developer to become an expert in the infrastructure underneath. We are growing our Cloud Platform team and looking for a junior or mid-level engineer who wants to learn quickly while helping us create exactly that kind of experience.
You will work with AWS, Kubernetes and modern infrastructure tooling while supporting a platform used by around 80 developers and data scientists. It is a role with plenty of variety, from solving day-to-day technical challenges to automation and observability, alongside experienced engineers who will help you grow into broader platform engineering work.
If you are curious about cloud-native technology, enjoy getting to the bottom of problems and instinctively look for ways to make repetitive work simpler, this could be a great place to make your next move.
About the Role
Our Cloud Platform team builds and runs the cloud platform that supports around 80 developers and data scientists. We want our users to spend their time creating great products rather than navigating the complexities of Kubernetes or AWS, which puts developer experience and simplicity at the heart of how we work. Joining the team gives you broad exposure to our platform and the opportunity to learn alongside experienced engineers as you gradually take on larger platform challenges.
Your day-to-day work will bring you close to both the people using our platform and the technology behind it. You will:
Our platform runs on AWS and uses managed services including EKS, RDS and MSK, alongside open-source software across several Kubernetes clusters. Infrastructure is declarative and managed through Git, with Terraform and ArgoCD as well as a broad observability stack. We also build tools for application delivery and CI, primarily using Go and C#, alongside scripting.
About You
You do not need to arrive knowing every part of our technology stack. What matters is a genuine curiosity about cloud-native technologies and AI, an appetite to understand why things break and a preference for fixing problems properly rather than repeatedly working around them. You enjoy helping other people, can make technical subjects understandable and are keen to keep learning across a wide range of technologies.
There are a few foundations that will help you get started and grow with the team:
About Centrica Energy
We are a global energy trading and optimisation company, moving energy from source to use and helping power businesses, homes and societies as the energy system transitions towards a more sustainable future. Across eight offices on three continents, more than 800 energy professionals connect producers, suppliers, large-scale consumers and trading counterparties across global energy markets.
We trade power, gas and LNG across global markets and work with renewable and flexible energy assets through services spanning Power Purchase Agreements, optimisation and flexibility, biomethane and energy certificates. Technology and market expertise play an important part in how we minimise risk, optimise opportunities and help our clients navigate the energy transition.
We describe ourselves as Energy Movers by Nature because energy is always moving, and so are we. As the energy trading and optimisation arm of Centrica plc, our mission is to help drive the green transition while supporting sustainable and predictable energy costs. We are also committed to putting inclusion at the heart of what we do: rather than asking people to fit our culture, we want them to add to it.
