Ontic, a leading licensor and manufacturer of complex engineering parts for the global aerospace and defence industries, are now recruiting for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Global Data Team, where you'll support us in developing the data architecture, platforms and insights that enable better, data-driven decisions across our global business.
This requires an on-site presence at one of our Gloucestershire sites for 2 - 3 days per week and occasional travel between UK and USA sites.
Ontic is more than just a business, we're a community of innovators who pride ourselves on fostering a culture where talent thrives, ideas flourish, and careers are built. We're committed to excellence, driving us to continuously improve and adapt, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of our industry.
Data is one of Ontic's biggest assets, and we're looking for someone who is passionate about data and excited by the opportunity to help develop our data platform through a significant period of growth.
Reporting to the Data Architecture Manager, you'll play a key role within our geographically dispersed Global Data Team, designing, developing and maintaining our data architecture and pipelines. You'll work across multiple systems to analyse data, develop data models, identify gaps and recommend improvements, with a particular focus on Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran, GitHub and Power BI.
This is much more than a purely technical role. You'll work closely with stakeholders across Ontic to understand business challenges and translate them into data requirements, help shape our data engineering and governance standards, and turn complex data into meaningful insights that support decision-making. You'll also act as a geographical data leader, contribute to our wider data strategy and help us explore new technologies and innovations as our data capability continues to develop.
At Ontic, our culture is integral to making sure we enjoy our work and deliver for our customers. While we look for the right skillset, we're also looking for someone who will thrive within our recognition and empowerment culture.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring strong commercial experience of data warehousing, data modelling and data engineering, ideally including experience administering and working within Snowflake. You'll have strong SQL skills and experience of dbt, building data models and flows using dimensional modelling techniques, and developing and maintaining data pipelines across multiple data sources.
You'll also be comfortable working with BI and analytics tools such as Power BI, with the ability to take complex data and translate it into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You'll be someone who can influence, communicate effectively across different levels of an organisation and work proactively and independently while balancing multiple priorities.
An awareness of emerging AI tools and technologies would be beneficial, particularly tools such as OpenAI Codex, Snowflake Cortex and Snowflake Intelligence, as would previous experience within aerospace, engineering or manufacturing.
At Ontic we care about your financial, physical, and mental wellness so we offer a range of benefits to support this, we care about what matters to you and have a valued culture of recognition and empowerment, accompanied by benefits that support work/life balance.
Our benefits package highlights include:
We are more than the sum of our parts. And we’ve been recognised internally and externally for being so:
No day is the same at Ontic; we have doubled in size over the last couple of years and are still in rapid growth. We attribute our success to empowering colleagues to create the opportunity, fostering an environment of autonomy where we ask for forgiveness, not permission.
