We’re hiring a Data Engineer II to help build and improve the data systems that power decision-making across Dave. You’ll develop reliable pipelines and platform capabilities while growing your ownership of production data systems and the business outcomes they support.
Data is central to how Dave builds products, manages risk, understands our members, and makes decisions. In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced Data Engineers and partners across Analytics, Data Science, Finance, Risk, Marketing, Product, and Engineering. You’ll own well-defined data engineering projects from implementation through production support and help make our platform more reliable, scalable, and efficient. You’ll also have opportunities to apply AI-assisted development tools and support emerging AI initiatives as we evolve how we build and use data at Dave.
Build, maintain, and improve reliable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver data across Dave’s data platform.
Own data engineering projects and pipelines through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and ongoing support.
Work with Snowflake, dbt, Airflow/Cloud Composer, APIs, files, and cloud services to support production workloads and optimize them for reliability, performance, scalability, and cost.
Support warehouse development through thoughtful schema design, data modeling, testing, documentation, data quality practices, and query optimization.
Improve ingestion, orchestration, validation, retries, backfills, monitoring, and alerting while helping reduce recurring operational work.
Use AI-assisted engineering tools thoughtfully to accelerate development, debugging, documentation, and analysis while maintaining strong standards for accuracy, security, review, and engineering judgment.
The systems you build help teams across Dave make dependable, data-driven decisions and ultimately build better financial products for our members. As your experience grows, you’ll take on broader technical and domain ownership and help shape how our data platform evolves.
2+ years of software or data engineering experience, including experience building or supporting production data systems.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or another general-purpose language, plus strong SQL skills.
Experience building or maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and working with technologies such as dbt, Fivetran, or similar tools.
Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift and orchestration tools such as Airflow or Cloud Composer.
Understanding of data modeling, data quality, relational data, and query and performance optimization.
Strong software engineering fundamentals, including version control, testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
Ability to troubleshoot production systems methodically and communicate effectively with technical and business partners.
Experience with financial or other highly regulated datasets.
Familiarity with GCP technologies such as Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Storage.
Exposure to streaming or event-driven data pipelines, data observability, or incident-management tooling.
Familiarity with GraphDB/Neo4j, data governance, privacy, access controls, or PII handling.
Experience supporting AI or machine learning data workflows, including pipelines, integrations, or data preparation for AI-powered applications.
You take responsibility for outcomes, not just completed tickets. You ask thoughtful questions, understand how your pipelines affect downstream teams and members, and make practical trade-offs between speed, reliability, and long-term maintainability. You care about building systems that hold up over time and look for opportunities to improve how the work gets done.
You also work well across boundaries. You seek feedback, share context, and collaborate with partners to arrive at stronger solutions. Not everything will be fully defined, and you’re comfortable learning unfamiliar systems and adjusting your approach as new information emerges.
You’ll have meaningful ownership with support from experienced engineers. Priorities evolve as our products and data needs change, giving you opportunities to learn, contribute to design discussions, and progressively take on broader technical responsibility.
Dave (NASDAQ: DAVE) is a profitable, publicly traded fintech serving millions of members. We believe everyone deserves access to their own money without predatory fees. You’ll work on meaningful data challenges that connect directly to our products and members, with the opportunity to grow your craft and help shape the systems behind a growing financial platform.
