We are searching for the best talent for a Director, CAR-T Manufacturing Systems & Strategy! This hybrid position will be located in Raritan, New Jersey.
Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines and Legend Biotech have entered into a global, strategic collaboration to develop, manufacture, and commercialize a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy for BCMA. This strategic partnership is designed to combine the knowledge and expertise of two companies to advance the promise of an immunotherapy CAR-T platform treatment.
The Director CAR-T MS&S is responsible for the end‑to‑end leadership of the site Manufacturing Execution System (MES) function and manufacturing program delivery organization. The role leads a portfolio of high‑impact, cross‑functional manufacturing programs within a highly regulated, patient-critical environment, ensuring effective governance and execution. Working through both direct authority and matrix influence across Manufacturing Operations, Quality, MSAT, Engineering, Supply Chain, Digital/IT, and Finance, this role drives outcomes that protect patient supply, inspection readiness, and operational performance. The Director operates within a matrixed environment across Johnson & Johnson and in partnership with Legend Biotech.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide functional leadership for the MES team, ensuring the system supports manufacturing, quality, and compliance needs.
Own MES and supply chain systems improvements and releases, ensuring readiness, adoption, and effective operational handover.
Lead a CAR‑T manufacturing program delivery organization, accountable for execution of high‑impact, cross-functional initiatives.
Serve as a single point of accountability for integrated manufacturing programs delivery, regardless of functional ownership.
Partner closely with Manufacturing Operations leadership to ensure programs enable reliable and scalable CAR‑T production.
Deliver critical manufacturing initiatives, including digital, operational, and transformation programs with significant patient and business impact.
Align across functional stakeholders on clear priorities, decision rights, and accountability models, translating competing functional needs into fact‑based trade‑offs aligned to compliance, throughput, and patient supply.
Drive organizational readiness, including change management and training effectiveness, for successful program adoption.
Serve as an integration point between manufacturing and digital organizations to ensure practical and execution‑focused solutions.
Represent site manufacturing interests in program, system, and transformation governance forums and deliver clear, execution-ready communication on program status, risks, and decisions.
Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and proactive risk identification.
Develop scalable people, process, and delivery capabilities to support long‑term evolution of CAR‑T manufacturing operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s/University or equivalent degree is required; advanced degree (MS, MBA, or equivalent) preferred
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Required:
Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience
Experience within Pharmaceutical or Advanced Therapy industry, specifically manufacturing, R&D, technical operations, and/or digital manufacturing
Demonstrated experience leading cross‑functional, high‑visibility manufacturing or operational programs with significant impact to compliance, throughput, and/or patient supply
People leadership experience, including direct management of project/program managers and/or technical teams
Experience establishing program governance, execution rigor, and/or risk management for complex initiatives
Executive-level interpersonal, communication and influencing skills, including the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, resolve issues, and translate complex topics into clear decisions and trade-offs
Solid understanding of GxP principles and expectations for inspection‑ready manufacturing operations
Demonstrated experience leading large-scale or site-level transformations in complex manufacturing environments
Preferred:
Experience with MES (e.g., PAS-X) and integration with ERP platforms such as SAP
Experience managing program budgets or financial oversight for large-scale initiatives
OTHER:
Requires up to 10% domestic and international travel, depending on business needs
Requires the ability, through our flexible work policy, to work on-site a minimum of three days each week, with the option for two remote workdays each week

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$150,000.00 - $258,750.00Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
