About us
At NATIONAL, we are driven by purpose, creativity, and connection. For 50 years, our teams across Canada have helped organizations navigate change, build trust, and shape conversations that matter.
As one of Canada's largest independent communications consultancies, we partner with leading public and private organizations to solve complex business challenges through strategic communications, corporate affairs, capital markets expertise, and creative thinking.
Our Toronto team is looking for a senior communications leader with a strong background in financial communications, capital markets, and investor relations. This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys advising senior clients, making complicated business issues easier to understand, and working in a collaborative, fast-paced consulting environment.
If you are a trusted advisor who likes solving complex challenges, building lasting client relationships, and helping grow a dynamic practice, we would like to hear from you.
The role
This is a hands-on senior advisory opportunity for someone who wants to be both strategic and practical, commercially minded and collaborative, and comfortable advising clients when the stakes are high.
As Director, Corporate Communications, you will provide senior strategic counsel to executives, boards of directors, and investor relations teams. You will lead complex client mandates across corporate and financial communications, investor relations, capital markets initiatives, reputation management, crisis files, transaction communications, disclosure support, and special situations.
You will also play an important role in growing our practice. That means identifying and leading new business opportunities, expanding existing client relationships, mentoring colleagues, and connecting clients with the right expertise from across NATIONAL's practices and offices.
What you will do
As a senior member of the Toronto team, you will help clients communicate clearly in moments that matter to their business, their investors, their employees, their regulators, and other important stakeholders.
You will be expected to bring sound judgment, strong business instincts, and a clear understanding of how markets, media, investors, disclosure, and reputation intersect.
You will lead complex client mandates from planning through execution, making sure the work is thoughtful, high quality, delivered on time, and managed on budget.
You will build strong, enduring client relationships, identify opportunities to expand existing mandates, and lead new business opportunities that contribute to the growth of the Firm. You will also manage project planning, financial management, and resource allocation so that client objectives are met and the work runs smoothly.
You will collaborate with colleagues across NATIONAL's practices and offices to deliver integrated communications solutions that meet evolving client needs. You will mentor, coach, and develop team members, helping foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
You will stay close to capital markets trends, regulatory developments, and emerging communications practices so that your counsel is current, practical, and grounded in the realities of the market. You will also help strengthen NATIONAL's presence in the Canadian capital markets and financial communications community.
What you bring
You are a trusted advisor with a strong grounding in financial communications. You understand how to translate complex financial, market, and business issues into clear advice, credible messaging, and practical communications plans.
You are comfortable in senior rooms, including engaging with executives, boards, investor relations teams, legal advisors, bankers, analysts, and other stakeholders who are often part of high-profile, sensitive, or crisis-related mandates. You do not need to be a specialist in every situation, but you should bring the judgment and experience to know what matters, what questions to ask, and how to bring the right people together.
You likely bring:
How you work
You are strategic, but not removed from the work. You can see the larger picture, identify what matters, and turn advice into action. You are calm under pressure, clear in your counsel, and comfortable working in situations where the path forward is not always obvious.
You simplify complex issues, including financial and capital markets issues, and provide practical recommendations that clients can use. You bring a strong client-service mindset, build relationships naturally, and know how to manage stakeholders with confidence and discretion.
You are organized and comfortable managing budgets, timelines, resources, and tight deadlines. You can lead multiple priorities at once without losing sight of quality, detail, or client objectives.
You are collaborative, but highly self-sufficient. You can motivate teams, coach colleagues, contribute to an inclusive workplace, and draw on the strength of a national network when clients would benefit from additional expertise.
You are proactive, detail-oriented, adaptable, and committed to excellent client service.
What we offer
Expected Compensation
The expected salary for this role is $103,500 - $115,000 CAD. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and internal equity.
