This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Finance based in Australia.
As Director of Finance, you will provide strategic financial leadership across a diverse Oceania portfolio spanning Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands.
You will guide financial strategy, planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, compliance, risk management, and governance across multiple countries and jurisdictions.
The role serves as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and Boards, helping translate financial insights into sound decisions that support long-term organizational priorities.
You will lead and develop finance professionals while strengthening consistency, accountability, and effectiveness across geographically dispersed teams.
Working closely with operations, development, conservation, and global finance stakeholders, you will ensure resources are deployed responsibly and aligned with strategic objectives.
You will also help manage complex financial requirements, donor obligations, regulatory considerations, and organizational risks in a mission-driven environment.

Accountabilities
- Provide strategic financial leadership and oversight across the Oceania region, ensuring financial strategies support organizational priorities, operational effectiveness, and long-term sustainability.
- Lead regional financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and performance management across multiple countries and business units.
- Partner with senior leaders, Business Unit Leads, and regional leadership to provide financial insights, challenge assumptions, and support informed strategic and operational decision-making.
- Develop, manage, and oversee complex budgets and long-term financial plans, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and financial objectives remain aligned with strategic priorities.
- Advise senior executives and Boards on financial performance, risks, opportunities, and strategic financial matters.
- Ensure strong financial governance, internal controls, compliance, and risk management across the regional portfolio.
- Interpret and apply financial policies, regulatory requirements, donor requirements, and statutory obligations across different jurisdictions.
- Lead and develop finance professionals across Oceania, fostering strong performance, collaboration, professional development, and consistent financial management practices.
- Work closely with Development, Conservation, Operations, Finance, and other cross-functional teams to improve organizational effectiveness and financial processes.
- Monitor financial and organizational trends, identify risks and opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations to regional leadership.
- Support and lead complex projects and strategic initiatives, managing multiple priorities while ensuring effective execution and alignment with organizational goals.
- Promote consistent financial practices and contribute to regional and global finance initiatives that strengthen governance, efficiency, and strategic impact.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial documentation, reporting, and analysis while maintaining high standards of integrity and accountability.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with at least 8 years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Significant experience across accounting, financial management, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and financial analysis.
- Proven experience providing strategic financial advice and business partnering support to senior leaders and executive stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and oversee complex budgets, financial models, and long-term financial plans.
- Experience managing geographically dispersed teams and working across multiple countries, regions, or regulatory jurisdictions.
- Proven experience leading, coaching, and developing finance professionals.
- Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and strategic initiatives simultaneously in a complex organizational environment.
- Experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders across multiple organizational levels.
- Strong knowledge of financial policies, regulatory requirements, internal controls, and financial governance principles.
- Demonstrated experience designing, managing, and implementing complex projects and strategic objectives.
- Excellent English proficiency, including the ability to communicate effectively with international stakeholders through presentations, conversations, and written documentation.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources into clear, accurate, and actionable insights.
- Demonstrated experience advising executive leaders and Boards on financial and strategic matters.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within collaborative, geographically distributed teams.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Accounting degree and CPA certification are considered advantageous.
- Experience with nonprofit accounting principles, nonprofit GAAP, or best practices in nonprofit financial management is a strong advantage.
- Multilingual abilities and multicultural or cross-cultural experience are considered valuable.
- Experience delivering training or developing financial capabilities within teams is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of current and emerging trends relevant to finance and organizational management is desirable.
