Maven AGI sits at the center of the hottest intersection in tech right now: AI and customer experience. While most "AI support" tools still focus on FAQs and deflection, Maven's agents actually do the work: autonomously interacting with customers, personalizing the conversation, and resolving complex issues, not just providing information.
That's not a soft ROI story. It's the most direct cost-displacement case in enterprise software today: real human work, replaced, at a fraction of the cost. Not "savings if you use it well," but savings because the agent did the ticket instead of a person.
Founded in 2023 by executives from HubSpot, Google, and Stripe, Maven builds conversational AI agents that don't just answer customers, they act: going into a customer's account, finding the actual problem, and fixing it, with no human required. Customers like Dell, ServPro, HardRock, Tripadvisor, Clio, and Thumbtack rely on Maven, with independently verified results (customers report resolving 70–93% of interactions autonomously) and G2 has named Maven a High Performer and Best Meets Requirements across multiple categories this spring.
We're looking for a Director, People Business Partner to help build and scale the People function at Maven during a period of significant growth. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for someone who can move seamlessly between partnering with senior leaders on complex People challenges and rolling up their sleeves to build and execute the processes that make a growing company run.
You'll own a broad range of work across the employee lifecycle, including performance management, employee relations, promotions, terminations, policies, compliance, onboarding and offboarding, while helping build the People infrastructure and playbooks Maven needs for its next stage of growth.
Just as importantly, you'll serve as a trusted thought partner to leaders across the company. We're looking for someone who brings strong judgment, intellectual curiosity, and the confidence to challenge assumptions, push back when needed, and help leaders navigate difficult People and organizational decisions.
This is not a traditional HRBP role where you'll advise one function from within a large, established People organization, nor is it a role where strategy happens at the expense of execution. We're looking for a high-agency builder who thrives in fast-moving environments, sees what needs to happen and drives it forward, and is equally energized by strategic partnership and hands-on execution.
*This is a hybrid in-office role in our Boston Back Bay office (~3 days per week)
Partner closely with senior leaders on organizational and People challenges, bringing strong judgment, perspective, and a willingness to constructively challenge and push thinking
Own and continuously improve core People practices across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, employee changes, promotions, performance management, leaves, and offboarding
Advise and coach managers on performance, feedback, employee relations, organizational changes, promotions, and terminations
Navigate sensitive and complex employee matters with sound judgment, balancing employee experience, business needs, and risk
Help design and run company-wide performance review and promotion cycles, creating clear and scalable processes for managers and employees
Develop, document, and scale People policies, processes, and playbooks that support Maven as we continue to grow
Own and evolve our employee handbook, ensuring policies remain practical, compliant, and aligned with how we operate
Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations and proactively identify where our practices need to evolve as the company scales
Identify emerging People and organizational needs before they become problems, and take ownership of developing practical solutions
Partner cross-functionally to translate business needs into People programs, processes, and organizational solutions
Work alongside our People & Talent Operations Associate to create efficient, high-quality operational processes across the People function
Identify opportunities to automate, simplify, and improve People workflows, systems, documentation, and employee experiences
Move quickly from problem to action, even when the path isn't fully defined, bringing in the right people and information along the way
Jump into whatever needs to be built or solved, from high-level organizational initiatives to the operational details required to make them successful
You have 8+ years of progressive HR, People Operations, People Business Partner, or related experience, ideally including meaningful experience within a venture-backed, high-growth technology company
You've experienced meaningful organizational growth and change firsthand, ideally within a Series A, B, or C environment, and understand what it takes to build People practices while a company is scaling quickly
You're a true HR/People generalist and builder, with hands-on experience across employee relations, performance management, terminations, promotions, onboarding/offboarding, HR policy, compliance, and People Operations
You've personally built or significantly improved People programs, policies, processes, or infrastructure rather than solely operating within established systems
You're a credible partner to senior leaders who can build trust quickly, offer a strong point of view, and respectfully challenge or push back when the business needs it
You have strong judgment and can navigate sensitive, ambiguous People situations without needing a playbook for every scenario
You're highly proactive and self-directed. You identify what needs to happen, create a path forward, and move with urgency without waiting for someone to tell you what to do
You're intellectually curious, learn quickly, ask thoughtful questions, and enjoy getting to the root of unfamiliar or complex problems
You're energized by growth and ownership and want an environment where there is still a lot to build, improve, and figure out
You're comfortable moving constantly between strategic and tactical work, advising an executive in one moment and digging into the underlying process, documentation, or employee issue in the next
You're personable, approachable, and able to build strong relationships across levels while also navigating challenging conversations with clarity and confidence
You bring a practical, business-minded approach to People and know how to create structure without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy
Most importantly, you're excited to help build the People foundation of a rapidly scaling startup and want your impact and scope to grow alongside the company
We are customer champions. You put users at the center of your thinking, advocate for their needs, and design solutions that make their lives measurably better.
We are bold in action. You move with urgency and courage, unafraid to challenge convention and take smart risks in pursuit of meaningful outcomes.
We are data-driven and insight guided. You make thoughtful decisions grounded in evidence, combining data with intuition to guide strategy and execution.
We are stronger together. You bring others along, value diverse perspectives, and contribute to a culture of trust and shared ownership.

$1,000 home office stipend and $5,000/year for continuing education

~120 people, built from zero in under three years — small enough that your work is visible, big enough to already be running at Dell- and Tripadvisor-scale
