JOB PURPOSE
The Director, Solutions Engineering, is responsible for leading the Solutions function in support of new business development, strategic client opportunities, and retained revenue growth. This role provides leadership for pre-sales strategy, solution design, and implementation partnership while developing a high-performing Solutions team that delivers scalable, client-focused transportation solutions.
As both a people leader and subject matter expert, the Director, Solutions Engineering, partners cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Technology, Implementations, and executive leadership to design innovative solutions, improve solution quality, accelerate speed to signature, and drive successful client outcomes. This role is accountable for building a disciplined, scalable Solutions function that supports business growth, operational excellence, and measurable results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the Solutions function in support of new business development, strategic client opportunities, and retained revenue growth.
- Provide leadership throughout the solution lifecycle, including discovery, current-state assessments, solution design, technology demonstrations, proposal development, and agreement support.
- Lead, coach, develop, and evaluate the Solutions team by setting performance expectations, providing ongoing feedback, conducting performance reviews, and supporting succession and development planning.
- Foster a high-performing, collaborative team environment focused on accountability, continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.
- Serve as the lead solution design resource for large, complex, or strategic client opportunities, providing senior-level guidance on transportation, logistics, managed services, and technology-enabled solutions.
- Partner with Sales leadership to strengthen win strategies, improve deal positioning, and increase conversion of qualified opportunities.
- Lead executive-level discovery sessions, workshops, solution presentations, and findings reviews to strengthen client engagement and support the sales process.
- Translate client business objectives, operational requirements, and challenges into practical, scalable solution strategies that deliver measurable business value.
- Support proposal development by ensuring solution scope, assumptions, and value propositions are clearly defined and aligned with client needs and business objectives.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with Sales, Implementations, Client Services, Technology, Product, Operations, Marketing, Finance, and executive leadership to ensure successful solution delivery and client outcomes.
- Ensure recommended solutions are practical, executable, and aligned with operational capabilities, implementation readiness, and company strategy.
- Drive continuous improvement by developing and enhancing Solutions processes, tools, templates, best practices, and performance metrics.
- Monitor and analyze team performance, key performance indicators, and business results to identify trends, improve operational effectiveness, and support revenue growth.
- Recommend enhancements to services, solution capabilities, and internal processes based on market trends, client feedback, and business priorities.
- Maintain expertise in transportation, logistics, transportation management systems (TMS), and emerging industry trends while providing strategic thought leadership to support organizational initiatives and key client pursuits.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in business, supply chain, logistics, engineering, or a related field.
- 8-10+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, consulting, solution design, or a related field.
- Experience working across a complex organizational matrix with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Experience building and maintaining relationships by engaging business leaders, establishing credibility, solving problems, building consensus, and achieving business objectives.
- Progressive experience leading, motivating, coaching, and developing teams while holding individuals accountable for performance and results.
- Strong consultative solution design experience supporting complex client environments and revenue-generating initiatives.
- Strong experience presenting to executive leadership and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

SCHEDULING
This is a full-time benefits-eligible position, working Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. An employee in this position must be available to work occasionally on weekends and evenings, during peak periods.
TRAVEL
Local travel is required. Out of state travel is limited, but may be required for special training/conferences.
