Peak Energy

Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Location: Burlingame, CA

Department: ESS Engineering

Reports to: CTO

Position Type: Full-time

About Peak Energy

Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven sodium-ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid.

Sodium-ion is cheap, readily available, and safe — making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market.

Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, Apple, Powin, Enovix, Zipline, Solid Power, SunPower, and Fluence. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners including TDK Ventures, Eclipse Ventures, and GM Ventures.

We recently announced America's first sodium-ion grid storage factory in Sacramento with production starting Q1 2027, and over $1B in signed customer commitments including Jupiter Power and Energy Vault.

About the Role - Electrical Engineer

Peak Energy is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team and be heavily involved with the technical direction for our gigawatt-scale battery electrical and controls systems.

In this role, you'll support the electrical architecture of Peak's next-generation ESS platform — driving critical design decisions, and influencing engineering direction across multiple teams. You'll stay hands-on where it counts — schematic reviews, PCBA architecture, integration debugging — while shaping the broader roadmap.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

• Own and drive the electrical architecture for Peak's HV ESS platform across current and next-generation systems.
• Lead the development of battery management and supervisory control architecture, defining design principles, interfaces, and quality standards.
• Set direction on schematic capture, PCBA architecture, and layout standards; participate hands-on where the problem warrants senior technical judgment.
• Drive HV system design and integration from early architecture through continuous improvement in production.
• Define electrical component strategy — including qualification, second-source strategy, and long-term supply resilience.
• Establish and evolve tools, infrastructure, and design practices that enable a growing team to scale.
• Represent electrical engineering in cross-functional decision forums with mechanical, thermal, software, controls, manufacturing, and reliability.
• Own critical technical outcomes: testing, system integration, validation, and production readiness of Peak products.
• Champion a culture of rapid prototyping, disciplined risk-taking, and hands-on problem solving. No job is too big or too small.

What You'll Bring (Qualifications):

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of professional electrical engineering experience, including significant hands-on experience with high-voltage systems.
• Deep experience designing PCBAs and bringing electrical systems from concept to production at scale.
• Strong electrical engineering fundamentals with demonstrated ability to solve highly complex, system-level technical problems.
• Demonstrated track record influencing architecture and technical direction across multiple engineering teams.
• Deep familiarity with high-voltage system design, safety standards, and grounding/isolation principles.
• Proficiency in electrical engineering tools (e.g., SPICE, Altium, MATLAB).
• Experience designing for medium to high volume manufacturing.
• Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and driving positive environmental impact through technology innovation.
• Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of battery chemistry, BMS (Battery Management Systems) and relevant electrical and safety standards.
• Power electronics design experience
• Supervisory control design experience
• Utility-scale energy storage systems experience

Peak Energy is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. We strongly encourage women, people of color, and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply. We value skills, potential, and perspective over specific credentials. If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t look perfect on paper, we still want to hear from you.

Our Core Values

• Speed Through Focus - Move fast but understand why. Focus on the goal, don't sacrifice quality.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $160,000 - $220,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills. Our competitive benefits package includes:

• Flexible time off

• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

• Strong 401(k) plan

• Equity opportunities
