In this role, you’ll be the initial go-to resource your team counts on. You’ll train and coach colleagues, help keep daily operations running smoothly, and step in to keep work moving when your manager is away. Your experience will directly shape how patients are served and how your team learns and grows.
If you’re ready to take the next step in your eligibility career and enjoy helping others succeed, this role gives you the opportunity to lead by example, build your leadership skills, and make a lasting impact on patients and colleagues alike.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead, guide, and mentor colleagues, providing hands-on onboarding and continuous development training.
- Oversee day-to-day operations in your manager’s absence, keeping work moving and making sure the team has the support it needs.
- Serve as the go-to resource for your team on questions, escalations, and complex cases, helping colleagues build confidence and skill.
- Monitor workflow and work queues, helping the team prioritize and meet productivity and quality expectations.
- Serve as a patient advocate and subject matter expert, conducting advanced screenings with patients in-person at bedside, to assess eligibility for financial assistance programs.
- Perform in-home patient visits, to support the completion of applications.
- Engage patients via phone outreach to facilitate their cooperation and support the completion of required screenings and documentation.
- Take ownership of complex and escalated cases, guiding patients through applications for Medicaid, Medicare, Disability, hospital charity care, and non-traditional funding sources, and seeing each case through to resolution.
- Manage a high case load effectively, prioritizing tasks, following up on pending applications, and meeting deadlines while also adhering to productivity and quality expectations (KPIs).
- Share feedback and insights with leadership on team needs, training opportunities, and workflow improvements.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows and patient experience and share recommendations with leadership to strengthen eligibility services.
- Collaborate and build relationships across teams, acting as a liaison between patients, hospital staff, and government agencies to secure coverage and resolve eligibility issues.
- Communicate with clarity and empathy, explaining financial responsibilities and assistance options in ways that patients can understand.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Use multiple systems and tools to document, track, and report on patient information.
- Support operational needs, including providing floating coverage at hospital locations within your assigned region as required.
- Complete special projects, as assigned.
What We’re Looking For:
- High school diploma or GED
- Proficiency in English and Spanish
- 3+ years of experience in healthcare eligibility, financial counseling, case management, or patient advocacy roles.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, or training experience, whether as a lead, trainer, preceptor, or go-to peer resource.
- Advanced knowledge of state and federal assistance programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security Disability.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage complex cases, multiple priorities, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
- Tech savvy with ability to efficiently navigate multiple software systems and platforms; experience with EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech is a plus.
- Ability to explain complex information clearly and empathetically to patients and colleagues alike.
- Comfort working in fast-paced environments with changing priorities
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions, including in locations where you may be the only specialist assigned.
- Genuine care for patients’ needs and concerns with ability to establish a rapport with patients through empathetic communication.
- Dependable, solution-oriented professional who leads by example and collaborates effectively with patients, hospital partners, and internal teams and colleagues.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Flexible to travel and support multiple nearby hospital locations when needed and assist with in-home patient visits within assigned market area to meet business needs.
