We have real traction and proven scale, and we're now setting up how engineering works for our next wave of European growth. You would lead one of the teams doing it, and shape the practices the others follow.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You would lead one of our product engineering teams: what it ships, how it runs, and how the people in it grow. Product and engineering together are ~25 people, so there is nowhere to hide and nothing you can't reach.
It's a hands-on role. One week you're in a design review, the next - in a few Claude-enabled contributions, the next - in performance conversations, and most weeks - all of that combined. You should love zooming in and out, from feedback on an API spec to a quarter's priorities. Your team trusts your technical judgement because you still use it.
Beyond your team, you would shape how engineering works at Insify together with the other Engineering Managers, a Staff Engineer and the VP Engineering: architecture, product discovery, how engineers grow.
What you'll be doing
- Leading a team of product engineers end to end: what you ship, how it performs in production, and who you hire and grow to get there
- Bringing architecture and product thinking into the team's daily work, so that new product demands turn into platform capabilities that scale across countries and insurance products, rather than one-off builds
- Running product discovery with your team: working with the Insurance, Operations and Growth teams on what to build, and saying no when the answer is no
- Shaping company-wide engineering practices alongside the other Engineering Managers: ways of working, architecture & technology practices, the growth framework
- Challenging our ideas and bringing your own. We encourage each other to act this way, so you can expect the same from others
What you'll need
- You've managed a team of engineers before, including hiring, feedback and growing people. It doesn't have to be for long, but it has to be real and you have to want more of it
- Years of hands-on experience designing and running distributed systems, including time spent maintaining what you designed. You can still carry an architecture discussion and review a design, and your team would trust your judgement on it
- A track record of shaping what gets built, not only how: you've run or driven product discovery, cut scope, and can show the decisions that followed
- Ownership & impact instinct - when needed you go beyond your team's boundaries to get to results
- You set the bar for AI adoption on your team. You use it to real effect in your own work, you're honest about where it helped and where it fell short, and you're the first to try new tools, bringing the ones that stick to your engineers.
Nice to have
- You are eager to scale your experience beyond your team - to create wider organisational impact
- Experience building B2B products, especially in insurance & fintech
- Experience working on a product distributed across different country markets
- Experience with TypeScript and AWS
Our stack
- TypeScript across the board, running on AWS with infrastructure as code, in a single monorepo.
None of this is a hard requirement, and you don't need to know all of our stack. We care more about how you reason about systems and teams than which tools you have used. Strong on most of it? Apply.
We offer
- Competitive compensation. We offer a salary in the range of 85k-110k EUR plus performance-based equity grants
- Hybrid. 3 days in the office, 2 from home, up to 4 weeks a year from abroad, 25 holiday days
- Pension. 6% employer contribution
- Wellbeing budget. €50 net a month via Epassi, from the gym to takeaway, rolls over
- Learning and coaching. Internal leadership programs and coaching
- Central Amsterdam office. Shared lunches, dogs, Friday drinks, high-spec MacBook Pro
HOW WE HIRE
Five conversations, each with a clear purpose, and you hear where you stand after every one:
- Leadership. We look at your experience with performance management, personal development and building teams.
- Code Review. You review a feature with two of our engineers.
- System Design. An architecture problem close to what we deal with.
- Values Interview. We look at your approach to work, and how it adds to our Values.
- Meet the Founder.
You get the outcome within three days of your last round, with specific feedback either way.
ABOUT INSIFY
Insify is a high-growth scale-up backed by €43M in total funding from world-class investors like Accel, Munich Re Ventures, and Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg. In five years, we've expanded from the Netherlands into France and Germany, and we're just getting started. Our mission: become the European leader in AI-powered SME insurance.
We aren't just building a company; we're leading a revolution. Our culture is intense, high-stakes, and mission-driven. We hire smart, ambitious "owners" who possess a relentless drive to win. This is an environment for those who thrive on challenges, value intellectual honesty, and share our mindset of becoming a global category leader.
Our founding team consists of seasoned entrepreneurs who have previously built iconic businesses like HelloFresh, Bloomon, and SumUp. We bring that same bias for speed, scale, and high standards to one of the most structurally broken experiences in financial services. Together, we combine that deep fintech and e-commerce expertise with cutting-edge AI to stay ahead of the curve.
