This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Engineering Team Lead, Identity & Access Management (IAM) based in Canada.
This is a high-impact engineering leadership role responsible for shaping identity, authentication, and authorization capabilities across a modern technology platform. You’ll lead a growing team while influencing how secure, scalable access solutions are designed and adopted across multiple engineering teams. The role combines people leadership, delivery ownership, technical judgment, and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll work closely with Product and senior technical leaders to shape strategy, manage dependencies, and guide important technical decisions. Because the IAM team is still evolving, you’ll have meaningful influence over its operating model, standards, and adoption across the organization. This is an opportunity to lead critical security-sensitive technology in a fast-moving, ambitious, and collaborative environment.
Accountabilities:
- Lead and develop a team of engineers through hiring, regular one-on-ones, coaching, performance management, and career development, while creating an environment where expectations are clear and engineers can grow and do their best work.
- Own the team’s delivery and operational cadence by keeping priorities, scope, risks, dependencies, and timelines visible, realistic, and well managed.
- Partner closely with a Product Manager and Staff Engineer to shape the IAM strategy, roadmap, and technical direction while contributing sound judgment to identity, authentication, authorization, and platform decisions.
- Guide the development and adoption of shared IAM capabilities and supported integration patterns, ensuring engineering teams have secure, scalable, and consistent foundations for managing access.
- Coordinate across teams that build on or contribute to IAM capabilities, clarifying ownership, managing upstream and downstream dependencies, and keeping stakeholders aligned.
- Ensure services are secure, reliable, observable, maintainable, and capable of meeting relevant security and compliance expectations.
- Represent the IAM team in cross-functional discussions, clearly communicating technical trade-offs, delivery risks, decisions, and priorities to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Requirements:
- You have 3+ years of people management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and supporting the career growth of engineers.
- You bring a strong software engineering background with sufficient technical depth to guide teams responsible for security-sensitive systems and make informed decisions without needing to be the primary architect or developer.
- You have experience leading complex initiatives across multiple engineering teams and aligning priorities, ownership, dependencies, scope, and expectations.
- You demonstrate strong delivery leadership and can effectively scope, sequence, prioritize, and reduce risk across work involving multiple moving parts.
- You have sound judgment across identity, authentication, authorization, security, and platform architecture, along with experience building or operating shared platforms, services, or capabilities used by other engineering teams.
- You communicate technical decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders and bring a collaborative leadership style that balances decisive action with appropriate facilitation and trust in technical experts.
- Experience in fintech or another regulated industry, shared identity/authentication/authorization modernization, platform adoption across multiple products, or collaboration with Security, Risk, Compliance, or Audit teams is considered an advantage.
Benefits:
- You’ll work alongside high-performing professionals in a collaborative and ambitious technology environment.
- An employee mortgage program provides access to exclusive preferred low rates for team members.
- You’ll receive four weeks of vacation per year through a generous time-off policy.
- The premium health benefits plan is fully paid, complemented by an annual wellness budget and 24/7 telemedicine access.
- This is a remote-first position open to candidates located anywhere in Canada.
- You’ll have the opportunity to influence an evolving IAM function while working on technology that has a broad impact across products and engineering teams.
- The organization is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, encouraging applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
