Reporting to the Regional Head of Security & Business Continuity, this role will be based in Shanghai and will act as a trusted advisor and functional leader. You will drive risk-informed decision-making, lead incident and crisis response, strengthen Business Continuity and Security capabilities, and ensure effective implementation of Maersk's Global Security & Business Resilience framework, safeguarding people, cargo, assets and continuity of operations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership, Advisory & Governance
- Act as the lead advisor and primary point of contact for Security, Business Continuity, Crisis Management and related resilience matters across the cluster.
- Provide visible, on-the-ground leadership, engaging directly with country and site leadership while influencing regional and global stakeholders.
- Drive implementation of Maersk's Global Security & Business Resilience framework across diverse operational environments.
- Establish security and resilience priorities based on the threat, risk and operational profile of the cluster.
Operational Risk, Incident & Crisis Management
- Lead and coordinate local incident and crisis response, ensuring timely decision-making, clear communication and structured recovery.
- Conduct threat, risk and vulnerability assessments and translate findings into practical, prioritised mitigation strategies and critical controls.
- Drive theft, loss prevention, cargo security and broader supply-chain security initiatives.
- Lead or oversee investigations into security incidents, theft, fraud, misconduct and other security-related events, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Monitor relevant security, geopolitical and emerging risks and assess their potential impact on Maersk operations.
- Embed and monitor Duty of Care practices, including travel risk management and workforce protection measures.
Business Continuity & Resilience
- Strengthen Business Continuity capability through effective Business Impact Analysis (BIA), Business Continuity Plan development, recovery planning, testing and exercises.
- Ensure critical sites and business functions maintain effective Business Continuity Plans and clearly defined recovery strategies and dependencies.
- Monitor resilience performance and BCP maturity, using meaningful metrics and insights to drive continuous improvement.
- Support resilience planning for new sites, business expansion and significant operational changes.
Standards and Capability Building
- Ensure alignment with applicable international security, supply-chain and resilience standards and regulatory requirements, including C-TPAT, TAPA, AEO and relevant customer or country-specific requirements.
- Conduct or oversee security reviews, audits, inspections and assurance activities, driving identified gaps and corrective actions to closure.
- Build and uplift capability across local teams through coaching, mentoring, training and structured knowledge sharing.
- Support planning, prioritisation and governance of security-related spend, resources, technology and investments.
- Use data, dashboards and technology-enabled tools to identify trends, monitor performance and support risk-informed decision-making.
Business & Customer Enablement
- Partner with business functions to meet security and resilience requirements and support sustainable business growth.
- Provide security and resilience input for new business opportunities, customer requirements, site start-ups, expansions, acquisitions and operational changes.
- Support customer security assessments, audits and security requirements where appropriate.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, law enforcement agencies, government authorities, security providers and relevant professional security networks.
Requirements
Experience & Expertise
- Demonstrated experience in security risk management, incident management, loss prevention or operational resilience in complex, multi-site and/or multinational environments.
- Experience working with senior business stakeholders and influencing decisions across multiple organisational levels.
- Experience in security governance, assurance, audits, inspections, performance monitoring and risk reporting.
- Experience in logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, retail, aviation, technology, FMCG or other complex, operationally intensive environments, is advantageous.
- Familiarity with applicable security and supply-chain frameworks, such as C-TPAT, TAPA and AEO, is advantageous.
Leadership & Personal Attributes
- Hands-on, adaptable leader comfortable operating across strategic planning and operational response.
- Ability to operate effectively in lean, fast paced and matrixed multinational environments.
- Strong judgement and decision-making capability, particularly during incidents, crises and periods of uncertainty.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence across all organisational levels.
- Skilled at translating risk insights into business impact and actionable mitigation.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Security Management, Risk Management, Business Continuity, Crisis Management, Business, Law or a related discipline is preferred.
- Relevant professional certifications in Security, Risk Management, Business Continuity, Crisis Management or related disciplines are advantageous.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken, and the ability to communicate effectively in the relevant local language(s) are required.
- Ability to travel within the cluster and internationally as required.
