THE ROLE
Damen Naval seeks to develop a Structural Hull Monitoring (SHM) methodology using digital twin technology and wave and sensor monitoring. This enhances predictive and preventive maintenance and optimizes design tools for hydrodynamic loading and structural resistance.
Our ongoing research focuses on equipping the next generation of naval vessels with these systems and further optimizing their design.
We offer various graduate research and internship projects, supported by our subject matter experts:
- Design and integration of Hull Monitoring Systems (System Architecture).
- Creating tools for post-processing the Structural Hull Monitoring data (Data Assimilation).
- Predicting sea state parameters via Hull Monitoring Systems.
- Coupling of SHM-systems with structural FE-models to predict the remaining fatigue lifetime.
- Benchmark in-house load prediction tooling’s on a deterministic and or probabilistic way.
- Comparison of fatigue prediction methods from industry standards versus SHM-system fatigue predictions.
- A combination of different subjects is part of the possibilities. Damen Naval can provide readily available assignments, but it is also possible to propose your own specific topic of interest.
