In the context of accelerating infrastructure deployment by hyperscalers for AI and cloud applications, and with the emergence of new transmission technologies such as hollow-core optical fibers and multi-core fibers, VIAVI Solutions is developing measurement instruments dedicated to these new uses.
Based within our R&D team in Saint-Etienne you will report to the head of the “Analog Electronics & Optics” Group.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Collaborate with design teams to develop next-generation optical systems
Specify, select and qualify active & passive optical components
Build and benchmark system performance models
Develop and implement robust testing procedures and instrumentation
Support production by troubleshooting complex technical challenges
Conduct testing on new and existing designs, ensuring continuous improvement
Drive solutions through formal engineering change processes
Contribute to cost reduction and optimisation initiatives
Perform root cause analysis on highly technical issues and implement corrective actions
Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:
To be successful within this role you will have:
Knowledge of optical components used in fiber-optic telecommunication networks and/or in the field of distributed measurement using optical fiber (temperature, pressure, etc.)
Strong experience in optical systems/photonics/laser technologies
R&D background specialising in optics or opto-electronics
Experience in fibre optics testing, modelling, and system performance evaluation
Knowledge of optical technologies of passive optical components or opto-electronic components used in fiber optics networks
Degree in Optical Engineering (classical training CPGE / Ecole d'ingenieur)
