Why Live in Wilkes Barre
Wilkes Barre or the “Diamond City” as it is referred to, was founded in 1770. This former coal town along the scenic Susquehanna River is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise for kayaking, whitewater rafting and hiking with an extensive system of hiking/biking trails. Four state parks and numerous ski areas make this a popular destination. Visit the F.M. Kirby Center for major theatrical performances, the Mohegan Sun Arena for concerts and the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins, the AHL affiliate to the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins. Small-town charm meets modern, urban convenience at a cost of living more affordable than the national average.
Conveniently located, Wilkes Barre offers the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport with service around the world and easy access to Interstate-81 for weekend getaways to New York City, Washington, DC; Philadelphia, New Jersey and Baltimore, MD.
