A Snowflake Developer or Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and optimizing cloud-based data warehousing and analytics solutions using the Snowflake platform. Professionals in this role focus on data ingestion, ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) pipeline creation, query performance tuning, and ensuring strict data security and governance.
Responsibilities:
Data Modeling & Architecture: Design and implement robust data models and schemas within Snowflake.
Pipeline Development: Build and maintain scalable data pipelines using Snowflake SQL, Snowpipe, Streams, Tasks, Python, or Snowpark.
Performance Optimization: Monitor and tune data warehouses, storage, and SQL queries for cost-efficiency and maximum speed.
Data Security & Governance: Implement Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), data masking, row-level security, and manage secure data sharing.
Integration: Work with cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP and integrate Snowflake with third-party ETL/ELT tools (e.g., dbt, Airflow, Matillion).
Mandatory skill sets:
Database & SQL Expertise: Deep understanding of relational databases, advanced SQL, and data warehousing principles.
Programming Languages: Proficiency in Python or JavaScript is typically required for advanced data transformations and scripting.
Cloud Experience: Hands-on experience with major cloud providers (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
Experience Level: Depending on the specific role, positions typically require between 5 to 8 years of dedicated data engineering or Snowflake-specific experience
