In this role, you’ll be part of Engineering and Run teams responsible for designing, running and improving enterprise-scale Dell Data Protection solutions that protect some of Lloyds Banking Group’s most critical banking services.
You will work across engineering, production support, automation and compliance, ensuring platforms are secure, resilient and aligned to LBG’s regulatory and operational resilience commitments.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Engineering, operating and improving Dell Data Protection Suite platforms, including:
- Networker
- Power Protect Data Manager (PPDM)
- Data Protection Advisor (DPA)
- Data Domain (Physical & DDVE)
- Long-Term Retention (LTR)
- Providing Operational Support for Private Cloud backup services in a 24x7 production environment.
- Ensuring backup and recovery services meet resilience, RPO/RTO, retention and compliance standards.
- Supporting operating systems and databases, working closely with application and DBA teams.
- Driving automation, standardisation and continuous improvement to reduce operational risk and manual effort.
- Playing an active role in incident, problem, change and audit activities.
Platform Engineering & Run
- Engineer, configure and maintain enterprise backup and recovery platforms within the Private Cloud.
- Support platform upgrades, patching, capacity planning and lifecycle management using approved engineering standards.
- Monitor platform health, stability and performance, proactively addressing risks and technical debt.
- Deliver recovery testing, restore validation and DR readiness checks.
Operating Systems & Database Support
- Support backup and restore operations across:
- RHEL Platforms
- AIX Platform
- Windows Server / VMware VCF
- Work with Oracle, DB2 and SQL Server workloads, understanding database-aware backup and recovery methods.
- Assist with OS- and DB-level troubleshooting impacting backup services.
Incident, Change & Governance
- Act as an escalation point for complex incidents and major events.
- Implement changes through standard LBG change control processes, ensuring minimal customer impact.
- Support audit, security and regulatory reviews by providing technical evidence and remediation actions.
- Ensure compliance with data retention, encryption, access control and SOX requirements.
Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Create and enhance automation using shell scripting, PowerShell or Python.
- Contribute to engineering documentation, runbooks and standard operating procedures.
- Stay informed on backup industry trends, vendor updates and emerging risks.
Infrastructure Management
- VMware (including NSX and VMware ARIA suite)
- Storage & Backup (SAN, NAS, vSAN)
- Databases (MSSQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
- Operating Systems (Windows & Linux)
- Networking (DHCP / WINS / DNS)
- Middleware (MQ, WAS)
- Automation Tooling (Chef / Terraform)
You will be able to demonstrate a familiarity and working experience of:
- Supporting & managing enterprise infrastructure systems

About you
We’re looking for someone who is curious, risk-aware and delivery-focused, with experience supporting enterprise infrastructure platforms in regulated environments.
You’ll bring:
- Hands-on experience in backup and recovery engineering and operations - Must
- Hands-On experience in Dell Data Protection technologies (Networker, PPDM, DPA, Data Domain, LTR) - Must
- Experience supporting Linux, AIX and Windows Server environments
- Experience of database backup and recovery (Oracle, DB2, SQL Server)
- Experience working within ITSM processes (Incident, Problem, Change)
- Basic to intermediate scripting and automation skills
- A collaborative mindset and calm, structured approach during incidents
