The Failure Analysis (FA) engineer will integrate a multi-disciplinary team expected to provide support to the design, production, and maintenance organizations and be a key contributor to maintaining a high standard of safety and reliability of the product for fielded engines and NPIs. You will be owning the timely execution of Failure Analysis and will have daily opportunity to work cross-functionally in order to foster the root cause identification process. You will leverage your experience and expertise in multi-scale material characterization techniques in conjunction to advanced analytical tools in order to provide tailored inputs for other Engineering functions. Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Failure analysis execution ownership at component level - Failure mechanism identification and root-cause analysis investigation
Provide direction and prioritization to other members of the team to fulfill commitments and ensure alignment with of team and business goals and priorities
Focal point to Materials Application engineers on various assigned projects
Work with vendors to identify root cause of failed components as needed
Undertake advanced problem solving and detailed analysis to understand failure mechanism, root-cause and any contributing factors
Collaborate with technical experts from cross-functional engineering teams to improve root cause identification and foster the introduction of containment plan and corrective actions
Interface with Product Support Engineering, Safety, Quality and Customer Support team to share information on critical issues and field response
Develop the collaboration network and cross-fertilization across sites to growth the self- and failure analysis team expertise
Self-directed, with the ability to understand and resolve advanced failure analysis problems and escalates through the appropriate channels when required
Safety and quality focus – Accountability to track and raise any quality concerns and/or new potential failure mode(s)
Provide accurate, factual and first-class failure analysis reports and communication across the organization functions
Pro-active continuous improvement of lab capability and service offer spectrum as needed – Adopt Lean
Attend relevant training, seminars, and symposium (local and international) for individual development
Required Qualifications
Master degree or Ph.D. in Material Science, Metallurgy, Material and/or Mechanical Engineering or related field (Aviation and Aerospace oriented is a must)
Minimum 5 years of experience in Materials Engineering with specific failure analysis track of records - failure mechanisms identification and root cause analysis process (problem-solving driven)
General knowledge of engine architecture
Extensive hands-on experience with sample preparation and multi-scale materials characterization techniques proficiency (optical microscopy, electron microscopy, hardness, ..)
Fundamentals understanding of characterization techniques (NDT included) and their inherent limitations to drive and lean failure analysis approach/plan
Methodical and creative approach, with strong attention to detail to enable smart failure analysis investigation and support fact-based decision-making processes and related actions
Adaptable to timely respond business needs and/or changing priorities
Strong analytical skills
Strong inter-personal skills, self-motivated and pro-active, agility to navigate in a complex environment
Strong technical English written and verbal communications skills, ensuring a consistently high-standard of reporting and flawless information flow down to stakeholders
Proficient in MS office and Image analysis software
