Lead Application Support Engineer

1. Application Ownership & Functional Leadership 

• Act as the primary functional owner and subject matter expert for assigned EDM applications and products. 

• Deeply understand application capabilities, configuration options, limitations, and roadmaps. 

• Ensure the application is effectively embedded into business processes, data governance operating models, and user workflows. 

• Drive strong adoption, usability, and realised value from the platform. 

2. Requirements Elicitation & Solution Design 

• Lead engagement with business, data governance, and technology stakeholders to elicit, analyse, and refine requirements. 

• Translate business and data governance needs into clear application features, configurations, workflows, and enhancements. 

• Work closely with platform engineering, delivery teams, and vendors to shape solutions that are fit-for-purpose and scalable. 

• Ensure alignment between business intent and implemented functionality. 

3. Feature, Configuration & Capability Enablement 

• Own and govern application configuration including workflows, rules, hierarchies, data models, matching logic, and quality controls. 

• Guide the design and rollout of new features, functions, and platform capabilities. 

• Ensure changes enhance usability, data quality, governance outcomes, and operational efficiency. 

4. Stakeholder & Product Engagement 

• Serve as the trusted application advisor to business, data owners, and senior stakeholders. 

• Influence platform roadmaps by prioritising enhancements based on business and data strategy needs. 

• Facilitate workshops, design sessions, and walkthroughs to validate requirements and proposed solutions. 

5. Operational Oversight (Light-Touch) 

• Maintain oversight of application stability, usage patterns, and operational health. 

• Act as the escalation point for application-related issues requiring deep functional knowledge. 

• Collaborate with the support team to ensure that recurring operational issues inform design improvements and backlog prioritisation. 

6. Change & Release Enablement 

• Provide functional leadership into release planning, upgrades, and new capability deployments. 

• Validate that changes align with functional requirements and business expectations prior to production release. 

• Ensure users and data stakeholders are prepared for new functionality through enablement and communication. 

7. Vendor & Platform Collaboration 

• Engage platform vendors and system integrators on design decisions, product capabilities, and complex functional issues. 

• Drive effective knowledge transfer from vendors into internal teams. 

• Assess vendor recommendations through a strong application-context lens. 

8. Documentation, Enablement & Knowledge Leadership 

• Own functional documentation including application behaviour, configuration standards, and usage guidance. 

• Provide enablement and guidance to data stewards, analysts, and support teams on application functionality and best practices. 

• Foster strong internal application capability and reduce reliance on external vendors. 

Key Skills & Capabilities 

Application & Data Expertise 

• Deep functional knowledge of enterprise data platforms such as Informatica MDM/IDQ/EDC, Ataccama, Collibra, SAP MDG, Talend, Reltio, or equivalent. 

• Strong understanding of how master data, reference data, metadata, and data quality capabilities are implemented and used in practice. 

• Ability to connect business outcomes to application functionality and configuration. 

Requirements & Solution Leadership 

• Proven experience leading requirements elicitation, functional design, and solution shaping. 

• Strong ability to translate complex business and data needs into platform features and configurations. 

Leadership & Influence 

• Demonstrated ability to lead without direct authority across business, data, and technology teams. 

• Comfortable operating as a trusted advisor and senior functional escalation point. 

Communication & Facilitation 

• Excellent communication and facilitation skills, including running workshops and design sessions. 

• Ability to clearly explain application behaviour and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders. 

Ways of Working 

• Experience working in Agile or product-oriented delivery models. 

• Strong prioritisation and decision-making capability, balancing short-term needs with long-term platform health. 

Qualifications & Experience 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field. 

• 6–8+ years’ experience working with enterprise applications or data platforms. 

• Prior experience as a senior application specialist, product SME, or functional lead. 

• Relevant vendor or data management certifications are advantageous. 

Role Level Expectations  

• Accountable for functional effectiveness, adoption, and value realisation of the application. 

• Operates primarily in a product / application owner mindset rather than a pure support role. 

• Drives alignment between business needs, data governance strategy, and platform capability.
