Job Title:
Lead Engineer, Product Development Engineering
Job Description:
Lead Engineer, Product Development Engineering
The Role
We are seeking a talented and driven Product Development Engineer to design and launch next-generation MicroEnvironments products, critical technologies that enable the safe storage and transport of photomasks used in semiconductor manufacturing.
This role is ideal for a hands-on mechanical engineer who thrives on solving complex engineering problems involving mechanical design, precision machining, plastic molding, material selection, and particle contamination control.
You will lead the development and enhancement of high-purity, high-precision photomask handling systems from concept through production launch. Working across engineering, simulation, manufacturing, suppliers, and global technical teams, you will translate product requirements into robust designs that meet demanding performance, manufacturability, and quality requirements.
The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with practical product-development experience and enjoys building prototypes, testing designs, solving difficult technical problems, and ultimately seeing those designs successfully enter production.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design and development of metal-based photomask handling systems.
- Lead product enhancements and derivative designs to improve product performance and manufacturing efficiency.
- Drive innovation in high-purity, high-precision products.
- Develop, build, test, and validate prototypes under real-world conditions.
- Collaborate with simulation, manufacturing, supplier, and other technical teams throughout the product-development lifecycle.
- Perform FEA, CFD, and Moldflow analyses to optimize product designs.
- Lead products through the development lifecycle from initial concept through production launch.
- Apply strong knowledge of physics and material science to engineering designs and technical problem-solving.
- Apply design for manufacturability (DFM) principles, including considerations related to precision machining and plastic molding.
- Utilize Accolade and other project-management tools to establish plans, track milestones, manage timelines, and communicate project progress.
- Conduct structured root cause investigations to resolve design, manufacturing, and product-performance issues.
- Support Design FMEA and Process FMEA activities to identify and mitigate technical and manufacturing risks.
- Manage and support engineering and manufacturing change-control processes.
- Communicate effectively across functions regarding design intent, specifications, drawing interpretation, part standards, technical risks, and project status.
- Prepare and deliver clear, concise technical reports, presentations, and engineering documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with global teams, including colleagues and stakeholders across Asia.
What We Seek
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of hands-on product design and development experience.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, physics, and material science, with demonstrated ability to apply these principles to product design.
- Proficiency with CAD tools, including SolidWorks and Creo.
- Experience with Design FMEA and Process FMEA.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct structured root cause analysis and resolve complex technical problems.
- Strong experience with precision machining and design for manufacturability.
- Experience taking products from concept through development, validation, and production launch.
- Strong project-management skills, including experience managing Gantt charts, timelines, milestones, and project deliverables.
- Experience working within structured product-development and project-management environments.
- Experience managing engineering and manufacturing change-control processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, supplier, and global teams.
- Ability to work independently, learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities, and drive work through completion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid background in the semiconductor industry, including familiarity with semiconductor customer requirements.
- Experience developing high-purity or contamination-sensitive products.
- Experience with photomask handling, precision handling systems, MicroEnvironments, or similar high-precision applications.
- Experience performing or applying FEA, CFD, and Moldflow analyses for design optimization.
- Experience with both precision metal machining and plastic molding.
- Experience using Accolade or comparable structured product-development/project-management systems.
- Proven experience collaborating with international teams, particularly colleagues and stakeholders across Asia.
Success in This Role
- You combine strong engineering fundamentals with a practical, hands-on approach to product development.
- You are comfortable moving between CAD, analysis, prototypes, testing, manufacturing, and technical problem-solving.
- You use data, engineering analysis, and disciplined root cause investigation to resolve complex design and manufacturing challenges.
- You design with both product performance and manufacturability in mind.
- You work effectively across functions, suppliers, manufacturing teams, and global stakeholders.
- You take ownership of commitments, communicate technical risks clearly, and drive projects from concept through successful production launch.
- You bring creativity and curiosity to difficult engineering problems while maintaining rigorous engineering discipline.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
Environmental / Work Conditions
- Work will primarily be performed in standard office and laboratory environments.
- Work may require interaction with manufacturing facilities, suppliers, or customer environments.
- Occasional domestic and international travel may be required to support manufacturing sites, suppliers, or customers.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally lift prototypes, components, or test equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to handle small components, tools, prototypes, and test equipment.
- Visual acuity sufficient for detailed engineering design work, product inspection, and evaluation of components.
