Job Description Summary
In this role you will be responsible for providing functional, non-functional, integration, component and end to end regression test for our API gateway releases.
You will be working in an Agile Environment and will collaborate closely with fellow Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Architects and Product Owners to create and run extensive and well written tests for the solutions implemented.

You can expect to be doing…
- Shape the API Lab Test strategy with the Quality Engineering Lead.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Engineering Leads, QE Leads, and Software Engineers to create bespoke Test Plans and EOTRs for API Gateway releases.
- Create Automated Functional Test scripts and maintaining large test suites with our Cucumber.IO test automation framework.
- Automate testing where appropriate, update and streamline the test automation framework & coding standards deployed within the team.
- Execute other Functional Test types where applicable e.g., Security testing to evaluate API Gateway release production readiness.
- Review and walkthrough key stakeholders on the API Gateway EOTRs (End of Test Report) for approval.
- Explore new Testing techniques, keeping up to date with industry changes.
- Lead and contribute to the confluence knowledge base to share new approaches and meeting definition of ready/ done.
- Set best practices for other quality engineers, create documentation and self-serve guide.
- Drive a modern engineering culture of delivering high quality, automated, secure & resilient software.
- Help in adopting best engineering practices like Test Driven Development, code reviews, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery.
- Be a team player who can build relationships and collaborate productively with other teams across a variety of domains.

We would be looking for the following...
- Strong experience testing APIs and API Management platforms (Apigee Hybrid, IBM API Connect, Kong, or similar).
- Deep understanding of REST APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger, routing, mediation, and gateway policies.
- Experience validating authentication and security protocols (OAuth2, JWT, TLS/mTLS).
- Expertise in building and maintaining automated test frameworks (REST Assured, Karate, Postman/Newman, or similar).
- Strong programming/scripting skills in Java, Python, or JavaScript.
- Hands‑on experience with mocking tools (WireMock, Hoverfly) and contract testing (PACT is a plus).
- Solid experience with performance/load testing tools (JMeter, Gatling, Locust).
- Good understanding of security testing principles for APIs and gateways.
- Familiarity with resilience/chaos testing concepts.
- Experience working on cloud platforms—preferably GCP (GKE, Compute Engine, IAM).
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, etc.).
- Exposure to Docker and Kubernetes‑based deployments.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Google Cloud Operations Suite, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana).
- Good knowledge on Atlassian test management tools such as X-RAY, JIRA and confluence.
It would be great if you also had…
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Experience with SRE practices (SLIs, SLOs, error budgets).
- Exposure to API monetization, developer experience tooling, or API lifecycle management.
- Prior experience in a platform engineering or API ecosystem environment.
