Lead Systems Engineer, Integration & Test

ABOUT THE TEAM

At Anduril, our Battlespace Awareness Command and Control Software team specializes in solving complex, real-world problems through cutting-edge algorithms and intelligent software integrations. Operating in small, innovative teams, we push the boundaries of what's possible to deliver advanced technologies with mission-critical applications. Our commitment doesn't end with academic research or proof-of-concept experiments; we measure our success by the real-world impact of our deployed solutions. Inspired by Arthur C. Clarke's vision — "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" —

Our work involves cutting-edge algorithms and high-performance software for multi-target tracking, data fusion, battle management, autonomous robotic control, and mission planning. We are currently seeking a highly talented, seasoned technical leader to join our mission and redefine the future of defense technology.

ABOUT THE JOB

We are looking to hire a Lead Systems Engineer to join our rapidly growing team in Broomfield, CO and Waltham, MA. The Battlespace Awareness team develops tactical sense- and decision-making software that provides advanced capabilities for Anduril's command and control (C2) products. This software must work with various combinations of compute hardware, connected sensor/effector hardware, and supporting software services. Proving that software is robust to variations in scenario, configuration, and mission set is a responsibility this team owns end-to-end.

In this role, you'll set technical direction and build the team that owns that whole pipeline — running our software through simulated scenarios, building performance analyses, red-teaming through scenario design, and creating the tooling so that engineers and customers understand system behavior. You'll be hands-on where it matters most, while also managing engineers, growing their careers, and ensuring the team's technical execution meets the bar our mission demands. This is a build-measure-analyze role for someone who has done it before at scale, led people through it, and can bring that judgment to a fast-moving team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Lead and grow a team of engineers. Manage direct reports, including hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, career development, and day-to-day people leadership.
• Set the technical direction for scenario design and analysis. Guide how the team exercises our software across simulated and real-world data sets and ensure the resulting analysis produces performance results people can act on.
• Own the metrics strategy. Define the measures of system success across the team's portfolio, ensure they're instrumented correctly, and use them to drive engineering decisions and product roadmap discussions with leadership.
• Represent the team in customer engagements. Oversee and personally participate in building and configuring simulation scenarios for customer-facing demos, and serve as a technical voice with customers and stakeholders.
• Drive root-cause analysis of system behavior. Guide the team's characterization of individual component behavior and emergent behaviors arising from system interactions, and use those findings to shape architecture.
• Build and scale the tooling. Set priorities for new data analysis and observability tooling and CI/CD automation, balancing team bandwidth against engineering needs.
• Operate across the seams. Partner with algorithm and software engineering leads to resolve cross-team issues, remove blockers for your team, and mentor engineers on integration and test best practices.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 12+ years of software engineering or software systems integration and test experience. Degree in Engineering, Physics, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 1+ year of direct people management experience (hiring, performance management, career development of direct reports).
• Strong Python skills for data parsing, analysis, and visualization
• Ability to read and reason about C++ or Rust (writing it full-time is not required)
• Demonstrated track record developing new data analysis and observability tools from the ground up, and leading others in doing the same
• Deep exposure to kinematics modeling and simulation frameworks (AFSIM or comparable)
• Skilled in statistical analysis techniques such as Monte Carlo techniques
• Demonstrated experience developing CI/CD pipelines, metrics, and test fixtures for software evaluation at scale, and setting standards for a team
• Demonstrated experience defining and driving engineering standards into processes and requirements across a team or organization
• Proven experience leading collaboration across cross-functional teams, including at the leadership/stakeholder level
• Ability to communicate complex technical findings clearly to developers, system leads, customers, and executives
• Comfortable operating under ambiguity, evolving priorities, and challenging problems, and guiding a team through the same
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Up to 25% travel to customer sites.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Familiarity with Linux OS.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Past experience with DevOps
• Familiarity with processes and constraints for real-time and safety-critical software.
• Experience with state estimation, sensor management and Kalman filters.
• Prior experience writing and testing Rust / C++ software.
• Deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle.
• Prior leadership role in field exercises, test events, experimentation campaigns.
• Previous experience in a defense, aerospace, or naval environment.
• Experience with any of the following: robotics, autonomous systems, radar, optics, computer vision, wireless communication, software defined radios, networking, missile defense
• Experience scaling or building a team from the ground up

We request transcripts as part of the early application process to understand your academic background and how your coursework supports the skills deemed critical for the role. Transcripts help us assess your technical and analytical abilities, complementing our interview process in which we also evaluate practical experience and cultural fit. If you choose not to share your transcripts, you will need to provide detailed information regarding your academic performance in relevant courses, including projects and coursework specifics, to ensure we evaluate your academic accomplishments properly. If you do provide academic transcripts, feel free to redact non-technical information (e.g., student ID, dates, non-technical coursework, etc.). Unofficial transcripts obtained online are acceptable for this assessment.
