• Fueling strategic community investments (e.g. grants, skills, loans)
• Delivering insights, advice and resources that inform Capital One’s products and services
• Activating the capabilities of “impact forward” associates

The Community Impact and Investment team supports Capital One through leading enterprise volunteerism, conducting market research, fostering community relationships, grant making, originating Community Development Financial/Institution (CDFI) loans and partnering with and advising LOBs.

The Opportunity and Role:

This role plays a critical part in translating community insights into national and regional market strategies and philanthropic investments that align with Capital One’s enterprise priorities and community impact goals.

Community Impact and Investment is kicking off a multiyear transformation to increasingly align business strategy and social impact; launch new, different, and more holistic approaches to investing in our communities; use Capital One’s volunteer time and talent in increasingly strategic ways; and use data, analytics, research, and inclusive design to inform more targeted and actionable consulting to our business partners on topics related to a broad view of financial inclusion.

We’re seeking a Greater Washington DC-based Manager to lead initiatives across both National and Mid-Atlantic portfolios. This leader is charged with deeply understanding challenges and opportunities nationally and within the Greater Washington DC region, bringing that market intelligence to bear to ensure we are designing and investing in high-impact programs with demonstrable outcomes to advance socioeconomic mobility while maximizing impact for Capital One’s reputation and business agenda.

In this role, you’ll be expected to demonstrate leadership and proficiency in two key areas:

Gathering & Synthesizing Market Intelligence

• You’ll oversee research and market scans to identify, analyze, and cultivate strategic partnerships across a variety of national and regional community organizations, social enterprises, and key public-private institutions.
• You’ll engage with senior executive partners and external leaders to nurture high-value relationships that advance community needs and scale systemic solutions for socioeconomic mobility.
• You will lead cross-functional risk mitigation and compliance oversight across national and market-level CI&I initiatives.

• Lead Investment Proposals: You’ll spearhead proposal design in close collaboration with market teams, analytics, and line of business leaders to build compelling business cases for national and local market investments.
• Portfolio and Process Strategy: You’ll direct and evaluate the investment portfolio of Greater Washington and national partners and associated philanthropic grants, optimizing alignment with overarching enterprise strategy.
• Performance & Impact Measurement: You’ll establish impact metrics and drive reporting for national and regional footprints to evaluate Capital One’s community presence, sentiment, and mobilization of enterprise resources.
• Using Data to Problem Solve: You will use data to understand challenges and proactively recommend solutions. You’ll seek out existing solutions before recommending or creating new ones.
• Tell the Strategy Story: You’ll use adaptive communication to tell the story of Capital One’s investment strategy to different audiences.
• Support Strategic Initiatives: You will support strategic initiatives on behalf of Market Engagement.

An Ideal Candidate is:

• Strategic Impact Leader: You possess a track record of driving scalable social change, with the strategic vision to connect national priorities to local community outcomes.
• Wired for Collaboration and Connection: You thrive in a matrixed organization because you know that together we can do better. You’re obsessed with building and cultivating relationships. You love the chance to share your perspective, to hear the perspectives of others, and to figure out how teams can collaborate.
• Strategic Executor & Problem Solver: You operate with high autonomy, navigating ambiguity and driving complex programs from concept through execution across matrixed enterprise stakeholders.
• Intellectually Curious: You ask why, explore, and look to understand the root of the problem being solved. You consistently seek subject matter expertise from communities and partners to inform and strengthen decision-making.
