The Team
The AI Risk Management role is part of ING NL's Non-Financial Risk (NFR) domain. It plays a pivotal role in enabling the safe and scalable adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across the organization. Through close collaboration with other 2nd Line of Defense (2LoD) functions and external regulators, the team helps ING innovate responsibly while maintaining robust risk controls.
Specific Function
The team contributes to ING's global risk management by:
Leading the ING NL AI risk management activities from NFR NL, in close collaboration with other second line departments and with business owners of models and agents.
Challenging and advising the 1st Line of Defense (1LoD) on AI strategy, control implementation, and risk processes, including oversight of AI portfolios and initiatives.
Driving optimization of risk processes to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability.
Acting as the central contact point for senior management on all aspects of AI risk.
Optimizing risk processes to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability across entities and use cases.
Reporting Line and Classification
NFR Expert AI Risk Management reports hierarchically to Head of NFR ING NL in Amsterdam.

Roles and responsibilities
The NFR Expert AI Risk Manager is a senior individual contributor responsible for:
Ensuring ING NL has an up-to-date control framework related to AI risk
Challenging, advising on, and improving control standards, procedures, and 1st line strategy.
Providing expertise and support to all risk ares in NL in relationship to AI risk.
Overseeing (Gen)AI risk across ING NL, ensuring all material risks are registered, reported, and escalated as needed.
Leading thematic deep dives and reviews on AI risk and perform 2LoD challenge on relevant risk assessments.
Monitoring regulatory developments and ensuring ING's compliance with relevant guidelines, including the EU AI Act.
Driving simplification and risk-based approaches in NFR, Compliance and Model Risk processes.
Driving the risk culture in 1LoD.
Specific Tasks and Responsibilities
Overseeing compliance with and simplification of NFR-owned documents and templates.
Challenging 1LoD controls, (Gen)AI Procedures, and portfolio strategies.
Supporting NFR, Compliance and Model Risk teams with (Gen)AI expertise and resolving escalations.
Performing oversight of (Gen)AI risk and ensuring clear risk messaging in the ING NL NFRD and various committees.
Conducting thematic deep dives and reviews on AI risk.
Monitoring external regulatory developments and communicating requirements.

We are looking for the following knowledge and experience:
Masters degree, preferably in a quantitative field.
At least 10 years of related work experience and knowledge on global regulations re AI.
Have experience in first, second and/or third line risk management, preferably from different risk areas.
Experience in assessing & influencing groups of stakeholders simultaneously.
Are persuasive and have a track record in managing relationships with senior stakeholders.
Have good communication skills and able present complex concepts to a non-technical audience.
Are good in conflict management and decisive in promoting a Risk culture.
Applies a risk-based mindset to prioritize what truly matters, makes courageous decisions in complex situations, and maintains focus on areas with the greatest impact for the organization.
Balances collaboration with the ability to enforce standards and make tough decisions when necessary.
