Following the US Department of State’s Travel Advisory for Iraq on 11 January 2020, combined with our own assessments, and for the safety of all personnel, please note the following travel restriction: US citizens are not permitted to travel to Iraq for the purposes of performing work in Rumaila for BP. For these purposes, the definition of ‘US citizen’ includes anyone with dual nationality, one of which is US.
Due to limited medical infrastructure within Northern Iraq cities and for security reasons, BP employees cannot be sent to the local medical facilities for medical interventions, and serious cases have to be evacuated from the country.
Therefore, we have more stringent medical requirements for fitness for posting in Iraq. These requirements broadly follow UK oil and gas medical protocols for fitness to work at offshore installations but also reflect the limited local medical capability in-country. This means that some chronic or acute medical conditions may have implications or restrictions for employees to work in Iraq.
The Iraqi government require all expatriate workers in Iraq to complete a HIV test, Hepatitis B surface antigen and Hepatitis C antibodies test. This will be tested in Iraq as well as in your pre-deployment medical assessment. The current position in Iraq is that any positive result to Hep B/C or HIV is not acceptable for a business visa, work permit or residency certificate to be issued.
Please also note that due to safety and security considerations, BP rotators cannot exceed a weight of 35 BMI.
