Why this role matters
Accurate, timely payroll plays an important role in the employee experience and in the trust our team members place in Truliant. As a Payroll Specialist, you’ll help ensure employees are paid correctly while providing clear guidance on payroll, timekeeping, and related policies.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys detailed work, solving complex payroll questions, and partnering with employees and leaders to keep an essential process running smoothly.
What you’ll do
In this role, you’ll take ownership of key payroll activities and help maintain accurate, compliant, and dependable payroll operations across Truliant.
Day to day, you’ll:
- Process and reconcile semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll, including hours worked, deductions, garnishments, taxes, bonuses, commissions, severance payments, payroll reports, and files submitted to third-party vendors.
- Audit payroll and Workday HRIS data, research discrepancies, respond to paycheck and payroll-reporting questions, and escalate issues promptly when needed.
- Guide employees and managers on payroll, timekeeping, policies, and applicable requirements, while creating training materials and leading monthly manager payroll and timekeeping training.
Beyond that, you’ll partner with employees, managers, Human Resources, and external vendors to strengthen payroll processes, maintain accurate records, support projects, and deliver reliable service across the organization.
What you bring
We’re looking for a payroll professional who combines technical knowledge, sound judgment, careful organization, and a service-focused approach. You’ll be successful if you can manage detailed work accurately while communicating clearly with employees and leaders.
This role is a great fit if you have:
Required Experience:
- 5+ years of payroll processing experience or closely related experience
Required Skills:
- Current knowledge of payroll tax laws, human resources practices, and recordkeeping requirements, with the ability to apply them accurately.
- Ability to process, balance, document, distribute, and reconcile payroll accurately across semi-monthly and bi-weekly cycles.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel and Word skills, including the ability to use VLOOKUP and PivotTables in Excel.
- Strong math, research, and data-analysis skills, with the judgment to identify issues and recommend practical, policy-aligned resolutions.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to explain payroll information and provide objective guidance to employees and managers.
- Ability to organize multiple priorities, respond to changing needs, maintain detailed and accurate records, and protect confidential information.
Education/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work-related experience.
You should also be comfortable handling sensitive questions with tact, shifting priorities when payroll needs change, and following issues through to a timely and accurate resolution.
What sets you apart
You don’t need to check every box, but here’s what will help you thrive in this role:
- Working knowledge of Workday payroll processing functions.
- FCP (Fundamental Payroll Certification), or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification
What you’ll get
We believe in supporting our team members both professionally and personally.
In this role, you can expect:
- Meaningful work that helps ensure Truliant employees are paid accurately and supported with clear, dependable payroll guidance.
- Opportunities to deepen your expertise in payroll operations, tax reporting, Workday HRIS, compliance, data auditing, and employee support.
- Broad collaboration with employees, managers, Human Resources partners, and vendors, giving you visibility into how payroll supports the entire credit union.
- A service-focused culture where accuracy, confidentiality, thoughtful problem-solving, and continuous improvement are valued.
People who enjoy bringing order to complex details and helping others understand important information can make a visible impact in this role while supporting Truliant’s commitment to its employees and members.
