Play an important part in strengthening the RBA’s Platform Engineering capabilities
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team within IT. Reporting to the Infrastructure Automation Team Lead, you will develop a strong understanding of business and technology requirements to design, deliver, and continuously improve secure, reliable, and optimised platform products and services.
You will enable safe and efficient delivery through well‑governed automation practices, balancing innovation with stability, security, and adherence to policies and standards. You will work closely with engineers across Platform Engineering and partner teams, and you will contribute to consistent, high‑quality platform outcomes and continuous improvement.
Role and Responsibilities
Design and deliver Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management, certificate management, and automation solutions that underpin platform and application reliability, consistency, availability and operational efficiency across the enterprise.
Administer and enhance platform engineering technologies including Puppet Enterprise, Chocolatey, and Venafi, leveraging these and other tools to automate operating system, infrastructure, application configuration, software packaging, and API-driven integration solutions.
Ensure solutions use secure, scalable, and compliant engineering practices aligned with the Bank's policies, standards, controls, and architecture guidelines.
Collaborate with Platform Engineering and partner teams to advance infrastructure automation, refine business and technical requirements, and deliver resilient, reliable solutions across the enterprise.
Remediate vulnerabilities and operational risks, and maintain platform solutions to meet agreed operational, delivery, and service performance objectives.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues impacting automation platforms and services, conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventative improvements.
Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and knowledge artefacts, while maintaining expertise in supported platforms, tools, and technologies.
Adhere to governance frameworks, operational controls, and processes, including change, release, and asset management, ensuring solutions remain supported, tested, and highly available.
Conduct technical peer reviews and promote engineering excellence and the adoption of automation best practices.
Skills & Expertise Required
Relevant industry certifications such as Terraform Associate, Azure DevOps Expert (AZ-400), or equivalent are highly regarded.
Proven experience in platform or infrastructure engineering within complex environments such as financial services or government.
Strong hands-on experience with enterprise configuration management and automation using technologies such as Puppet or Ansible.
Extensive experience developing, maintaining, and supporting Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management, software packaging, and automation solutions using technologies such as Terraform, Packer, Puppet, Chocolatey, or similar.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, source control, API-driven automation, and integration patterns using platforms such as Azure DevOps, Git, Artifactory, GitLab, or equivalent.
Working knowledge of Windows and Linux (RHEL) operating systems, configuration management, and supporting infrastructure technologies.
Proficiency in YAML and at least one scripting language such as PowerShell, Python, or Ruby, with experience in developing declarative automation solutions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an engineering mindset focused on automation, repeatability, resilience, and service reliability.
