The infrastructure managing $300 trillion in assets was built in the 90s. Now, all of it is up for grabs. The winner of the AI era of investment management will be a $100B+ company. We intend to be that company.
To get there, we're assembling the most talent-dense startup in New York. We hire people who are 1) exceptional, 2) allergic to anything that's not exceptional, and 3) recruiters of other exceptional people. We also have no tolerance for brilliant jerks.
We run lean by design. We work with a select group of the largest financial institutions in the world, go incredibly deep with each, and sit in the flow of trillions of dollars. We hire fewer people, ask each to own the outcome, and pay on impact - not tenure or experience.
Moment is not for everyone. The standards are unreasonably high. The pace is intense. And there is no playbook.
In return: the best work of your career, building a generational company.
Moment is the AI operating system for investment management, built for the world's largest wealth firms and fintechs. Moment works with firms managing more than $10 trillion in client assets and is backed by Index, a16z, and Lightspeed. Moment was founded by former quants from Citadel and Jane Street and is based in NYC.
At Moment, the Platform team’s job is to pave the road for success. We exist to help engineers move quicker, safer, and with deeper visibility. We treat our internal platform as a product, with our engineers as the customers.
We are looking for an engineer who can balance high-level architectural design in AWS with low-level backend coding in Go. You will bridge the gap between infrastructure and application code. You will find and implement opportunities to increase every developer’s leverage.
Architect "golden paths”. You will build and maintain the core shared libraries, SDKs, and code-generation tools (gRPC, OpenAPI) that power our entire engineering organization. Our goal is to abstract away complexity so product teams can ship features faster and safer.
Design and optimize cloud infrastructure. You will take ownership of our AWS ecosystem (ECS, RDS, MSK, etc.). You will design capable architectures on a whiteboard and are comfortable getting your hands dirty debugging production performance, tuning database parameters, and automating toil.
Treat the platform as the product. You will embed with product teams to understand their friction points, treating them as your customers. You will champion a philosophy where we build tools that are intuitive and helpful.
Elevate observability. You will set the standard for how we observe and debug our systems. This involves going deep into the stack to debug distributed system failures, improving our alerting strategy to reduce noise, and teaching the wider engineering team how to troubleshoot effectively.
Be a mentor and technical leader. You will also drive technical standards across the company by documenting patterns, writing clear guides, presenting to all engineers, and mentoring engineers on best practices.
You have deep expertise in backend programming. You have significant experience building high-performance backend services or libraries. You understand the nuances of the language and how to write code that others find easy to read and import.
You have deep cloud fluency. You have architected and managed production workloads on AWS or other clouds. You know your way around ECS, RDS, Lambda and data streaming services, and you understand the trade-offs between cost, performance, and complexity.
You have a DevEx mindset. You have a history of building tools that make developers' lives easier. You understand that documentation is a feature, and you take pride in writing clear, accessible guides for your tools.
