The principal engineer for mechanical FEA is part of the Special Calculation and tooling COE organization and functionally reports to the consulting engineer for FEA mechanical.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of “generator mechanical engineering”, with a main focus on “special calculations”. Integrates and develops calculation processes that meet business needs across the organization. Involved in long-term planning, this role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within the functional area of expertise.
- Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in mechanical generator (FEA calculation) design in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
- Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced mechanical engineers, specialists, technicians and co-ops.
- Participate in meetings with customers (during contract execution or tender phases) on technical matters.
- Propose improvements to existing methods in order to increase the competitiveness of the technical solutions offered by the company.
- Document and share know-how and lessons learned within their specific area of expertise.
- Support less experienced engineers in their technical development.
- Participate in technology watch activities within their area of expertise.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Physics
- Fluent in English and at least one other language
- Proven experience in an Hydropower engineering capacity
Desired Qualifications:
- Exposed to main Hydro Standard (ASME, EN, API)
- Capacity to work beyond the product and CoE’s
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Problem analysis and resolution skills
- Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in FEA mechanical Calculation, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within this field
