This role translates system and customer requirements into reliable software architecture, control requirements, communication interfaces, validation plans, and release criteria to support safe, efficient, and compliant BESS operation. The engineer will work with power electronics, system architecture, battery engineering, test, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and customers to deliver high-performance BESS platforms for commercial, industrial, utility-scale, microgrid, and critical power applications.
Location:
This role will be based at Jabil's Huangpu office in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead BESS power control and software activities, including PCS/inverter controls, EMS/BMS interfaces, SCADA integration, protection logic, diagnostics, and critical power operating modes.
- Define control requirements for charge/discharge operation, grid-following and grid-forming behavior, reactive power, frequency response, black start readiness, fault ride-through, anti-islanding, safe shutdown, and system recovery.
- Develop and review software architecture, state machines, control sequences, communication mapping, alarms, diagnostics, cybersecurity requirements, configuration management, and release readiness criteria.
- Establish critical coding expectations, including modular design, coding standards, traceability, version control, code review, unit testing, static analysis, integration testing, HIL/SIL validation, cybersecurity review, and release control.
- Integrate BESS software with PCS, BMS, EMS, SCADA, site controllers, meters, protection relays, HVAC, fire safety interfaces, and customer or utility control systems.
- Plan and support software verification and validation, including requirements-based testing, regression testing, HIL/SIL testing, FAT/SAT, commissioning support, grid compliance testing, and field issue troubleshooting.
- Partner with suppliers, customers, test labs, and cross-functional teams to improve system performance, reliability, and launch readiness.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
