Product Design Manager

Everlaw is seeking a Product Design Manager to lead, grow, and empower a team of talented product designers building high-impact user experiences for an AI powered litigation platform. This role sits at the intersection of design excellence and people leadership. It is ideal for a design leader who cares deeply about craft, is comfortable tackling technical challenges, has led teams that have shipped exceptional enterprise AI user experiences, and is motivated to develop people to do the best work of their careers.

At Everlaw, our mission is to promote justice by illuminating truth. We help legal teams across law firms, government agencies, corporations and nonprofits sift through millions of documents to uncover critical evidence in high-stakes litigation and investigations. It's a multi-billion dollar space, and we approach it with advanced technology and thoughtful design. We work with all 50 state Attorneys General and hundreds of law firms on some of the most high-profile cases litigated today.

The Product Design team is at the forefront of this mission, transforming complex, high-stakes workflows into experiences that are intuitive, powerful, and distinctly human. As AI redefines legal work, we are committed to designing systems that amplify human intuition, communicate uncertainty with clarity, and uphold the defensibility required in the pursuit of justice. We take pride in designing an exceptional product while fostering a strong user-centered design culture across the company.

We do not believe in the ‘perfect’ candidate. If you’re passionate about the role and feel you can contribute meaningfully, we encourage you to apply. This is a full-time position based in our Oakland, California office, with a hybrid schedule: in-office Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with the option to work remotely Tuesday and Friday.

How we're different

• Built for the AI Era: Everlaw has been committed to AI-assisted workflows for over a decade with tools like predictive coding, document clustering, and ML translation. We’ve continued this leadership into the generative AI era, with best-in-class AI features like deep dive and coding suggestions built with principled design, rigorous controls, and deep workflow expertise. We don’t layer AI onto legal work - we architect intelligent, trustworthy systems grounded in enduring trust.
• Pursue truth while finding yours: We pursue truth for our customers and our employees alike. With a generous L&D budget, clearly codified norms, and a commitment to long-term thinking, integrity and  discipline, we create an environment where careers grow with intention and purpose.
• Design at the core: Design is embedded in product strategy and company direction. Our open, vibrant culture fosters strong belongingness and DEIB scores as reflected in team engagement surveys. We firmly believe that happy people make happy products.
• Thoughtful onboarding: From day one, our structured onboarding program integrates you into our product, processes, team and goals, setting you up to contribute thoughtfully and quickly.
• Impact that matters: Through our social impact program, Everlaw for Good, we provide free or at heavily discounted prices to our technology for journalists, nonprofits, and pro bono attorneys to help level the playing field for justice, extending our mission beyond business.

In your role, you'll...

• Elevate our craft: Foster a culture of high craft, thoughtful critique, and user empathy, maintaining a high bar for product thinking, interaction and visual design.
• Drive design strategy: Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to define product direction, translate ambiguous problems into clear design opportunities, and deliver cohesive experiences.
• AI experience guidance: Guide designers in ensuring AI features are transparent, trustworthy, and explainable, leveraging best in class design patterns for the dynamically evolving AI space.
• User advocacy: Guide the team to translate complex legal workflows and technical constraints into seamless user experiences, serving as the advocate for the user in high-stakes technical discussions.
• Strategic impact: Make strategic design decisions that align with and deliver impact on Everlaw's goals.
• Guide team excellence: Manage, coach, and grow a team of product designers, supporting career development through clear feedback, mentorship, and personalized growth plans.
• Set clear expectations: Create clarity around expectations, roles, and impact, helping designers understand how their work connects to the broader company vision.
• Scale the team: Participate in hiring and refining our design operations.
• Reinforce accountability: Ensure strong performance and behavioral alignment across the team.
