About the Job:
We’re looking for a Product Manager to join us to make Back Market the most successful destination for buying refurbished in Japan.
As a Senior minded PM, you’ll autonomously own the product vision and strategy for our Japan Market, meaning creating new features and innovative journeys for Japanese citizens, taking into consideration their specific needs, which might vary from EU or US.
You’ll collaborate with our Engineers, Product Designers, User Researchers, and Product Managers in other squads/regions to bring a plethora of concepts and product evolution. You’ll work on a daily basis with developers to validate the technical feasibility of your proposals and to ensure the fulfillment of your craft, and you’ll also be connected with other Back Markets functions (Marketing, Brand, Business, Customer Care, Supply etc.) to help articulate the needs and expectations of the customer and the business.
You will also manage the relationships with business stakeholders, other product managers, and localization partners to deliver impactful results.
YOUR MISSION (IF YOU ACCEPT IT): 🥇
You create your squad’s vision, and you are responsible for defining the Northstar metrics and KPIs: it drives the team toward concrete goals and impacts.
You will work closely with the Japan General Manager and Marketing Director to align on the short and long term priorities: you liaise with them to ensure your product fits perfectly into the Back Market experience.
You are the Engineering Manager’s daily partner: you adjust priorities if needed, and your communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineers ensure our quality standards and commitments are met.
The product management skills have no secret for you, you master the discovery steps (link with research, design, data), as well as delivery (testing and QA are part of the game!).
You communicate clearly and regularly on the risks and impacts of your roadmap and features: you know how to anticipate problems and dependency to ensure a smooth delivery.
Data is your best friend: data drives your decisions and vision… you never work without data!
YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE IF: ⭐
You have a strong Product Manager experience (minimum 5-7 years) and you are comfortable working with Product Designers, UX researchers, as well as Engineering teams.
You have product management experience in an agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, etc.) and you are able to shape product discovery and delivery according to agile principles.
You have a good understanding of the Japanese market and, more specifically, ecommerce behaviours and trends in Japan: PayPay or Rakuten do not have any secrets for you.
You are a brilliant communicator; your peers define you as a facilitator and leader. Your interpersonal skills will be crucial for that role to build strong relationships with stakeholders and top management.
You have a problem-solver attitude, comfortable navigating ambiguous situations using data and putting the user at the center of all your thoughts.
Your native language is Japanese and you are comfortable communicating professionally in English, as we are an international team.
You have an analytical mind, and even better, an analytics background. Monitoring our key performance indicators / being able to define targeted increments is part of your daily life. Data is your secret weapon to better frame and measure the quality of our features and increments.
You use common sense. You have a strategic but simple vision of your product. For you, the product must amplify the value of business expectations.
At Back Market, we’re committed to hiring and supporting diverse teams of people from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives — it’s one of the reasons we’re such a high-scoring certified B Corp company (93.2).
No matter your role and seniority level, you’ll enjoy impact-driven work with hands-on career development in an innovative, driven, and fast-paced environment — with benefits to match, like:
- A mission driven work environment where your day to day makes an impact on the planet. Seriously.
- Hybrid work environment, with 2 remote days a week and 1 remote work week per quarter, plus 3 flex days.
- Employee Resource Groups, including mentorship programs, comprehensive accessibility policies, and cultural competency training.
At Back Market, we strive to create a workplace that embodies the world we’re trying to change. We’ve embedded our diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into our DNA — from dedicated staff to employee resource groups to our company values.
We know that the perfect background for a role doesn’t mean the perfect fit — we encourage you to apply for a role even if you think you may not have all the qualifications.
If reasonable accommodations are needed for the interview process, please do not hesitate to discuss this with the Talent Acquisition Team.
