Join an early-stage startup.
Accelerate economic opportunity.
Join us to grow Kovo's core product. Credit building is the business that got us here, and it's still growing fast. You'll have end-to-end responsibility: onboarding, lifecycle, conversion and retention. You set the roadmap and you build what you find.
This role is a good fit if:
You've shipped code to production and you've decided what to build.
You go deep on funnels, workflows and lifecycle systems, and find the opportunity others missed.
When you find a fix, you open a PR instead of writing a ticket.
You think in experiments and measured lift, not campaign sends.
You want to inform the direction for a product.
Kovo is expanding access to financial tools for people historically excluded from the traditional credit system. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity for economic independence, and we're building products that help people establish financial identity and unlock opportunity.
Over the past three years, Kovo has grown revenue 20x while maintaining exceptional capital efficiency. We rank above the 99th percentile in revenue per employee benchmarks, reflecting the leverage of a small, high-performing team.
The team combines the ambition of a venture-scale company with the discipline of a profitable business. We reached positive free cash flow early in our lifecycle, allowing us to grow with less dilution and focus on building for the long term.
Kovo is backed by Inspired Capital and Homebrew, and built by alumni from Plaid, Experian, Equifax, TransUnion, Innovis, Chime, Robinhood, Cash App, Honey, Possible, Monzo, Mercury, and more. We're looking for exceptional people to help us scale the company another 20x and beyond.
Direct impact on millions of people's ability to access credit
High ownership with minimal bureaucracy
Speed, learning, and impact are core values
Roles and priorities evolve quickly
Some systems and processes are still being built
The pace of execution and career growth is intense (not optimized for work-life balance)
What you inherit
Two feature-complete credit builder products that report to all four major bureaus.
Onboarding, lifecycle messaging (email, push, in-app, SMS) and growth experiments across web and app.
A lifecycle stack migration to PostHog, alongside product analytics and experiments in PostHog.
Sandbox environments that let you prototype on the real product.
Where your time goes
Most of it: finding and shipping the highest-leverage improvements across the existing product.
Some of it: building a system that runs experiments with fewer humans in the loop every quarter.
A little of it: setting the roadmap and keeping the team informed.
Set the direction
Own the north star, input metrics, roadmap and quarterly plan for the core product, the same way each engineering team owns its own.
Rank bets by measured impact on conversion, retention and lifetime value. Keep the list short.
Write short updates about results, not activity.
Find the opportunity
Go deep on onboarding, payment and lifecycle workflows. Watch sessions, query the data, read support conversations.
Size each opportunity before you build it.
Build it
Prototype in sandbox environments, then ship production PRs yourself. Use agents heavily.
Instrument events cleanly, and fix event and property gaps yourself.
Run experiments end-to-end: hypothesis, sizing, launch and readout.
Own the lifecycle system: workflows, templates, triggers and monitoring.
Build agentic workflows that propose, launch and read out experiments with less of you every quarter.
What you won't do
Write tickets for someone else to build or do what you could build or do yourself.
Groom a backlog.
Write a PRD when a prototype or a PR would answer the question faster.
Hand off a spec and wait.
Mindset
You want to own outcomes, and you measure yourself by what moved.
Energized by helping underserved people build credit and financial identity.
Comfortable in a high-intensity, remote role with full ownership and little scaffolding.
You hate AI slop. You use agents heavily and hold their output to a higher bar than your own.
How you work
PR first. You fix what you find.
Data first. You write your own SQL and read your own experiments.
Clear, short writer. People act on your message after one read.
Experience
4+ years, or equivalent depth, in product engineering, growth engineering, or a product role where you shipped your own code.
You've shipped production code recently, in TypeScript, React or similar. AI-assisted counts.
A track record of measured wins in activation, conversion, retention or reactivation in a consumer product.
Comfortable with event-driven systems, product analytics, experiment design, and lifecycle platforms. Intermediate SQL or better.
Bonus: Consumer fintech experience.
You report to one of the founders, based in Austin, TX. We are fully remote. Austin is a plus, not a requirement.
