For more than 140 years, we've delivered innovative solutions across some of the world's most critical industries, including commercial real estate, healthcare, data centres, advanced manufacturing, education, and major infrastructure. Today, we continue to lead the industry through cutting-edge technologies, deep technical expertise, and a commitment to creating smarter buildings for the future.
Looking for a New Challenge Beyond Project Delivery?
Are you an experienced Project Manager, Project Engineer, Service Manager, Operations Leader, Estimator, or HVAC professional who enjoys working with customers and influencing outcomes?
Have you built strong industry relationships and found yourself naturally identifying opportunities, solving client challenges, and helping shape project solutions?
If so, this could be the career move you've been looking for.
We're seeking a Business Development Manager to drive growth across our HVAC Retrofit Projects business in Sydney. This role offers the opportunity to leverage your technical and project experience while stepping into a strategic commercial position where you'll shape major building upgrade projects from concept through to award.
You don't need decades of sales experience. We're equally interested in technically strong industry professionals who understand HVAC systems, can build trusted relationships, and want to influence projects earlier in the lifecycle.
What You'll Be Doing
As a trusted advisor to building owners, consultants, and facility leaders, you will:
Identify and develop HVAC retrofit, asset replacement, and mechanical upgrade opportunities across the Sydney market.
Engage customers to understand operational, financial, and sustainability challenges.
Work alongside engineering, estimating, service, and operations teams to develop tailored solutions.
Build relationships with building owners, facilities managers, consultants, contractors, and property professionals.
Guide opportunities from initial engagement through to proposal development, negotiation, contract award, and project handover.
Influence project specifications and position Johnson Controls as the partner of choice.
Develop a strong pipeline of opportunities and deliver against growth targets.
Provide market insights and identify emerging customer needs and trends.
Why This Role Is Different
Many sales roles focus solely on products.
This role is about solving complex building challenges and helping customers make informed investment decisions that improve reliability, efficiency, sustainability, and long-term asset performance.
You'll combine technical expertise, project knowledge, commercial thinking, and relationship management to help customers deliver meaningful outcomes.
Why Join Johnson Controls?
You'll be joining a global market leader with the capability, brand, and technical expertise to deliver some of Australia's most significant building upgrade projects.
We offer:
The opportunity to transition from project delivery into a strategic commercial role.
Access to industry-leading HVAC technologies and solutions.
Strong support from experienced engineering, service, and operations teams.
A collaborative, high-performance culture.
Career development opportunities across a global organisation.
Flexibility, autonomy, and the ability to build your own market strategy.
The chance to make a tangible impact on building sustainability and energy efficiency outcomes.
About You
We're particularly interested in professionals who have built their careers within HVAC projects, service, engineering, or operations and are ready to take the next step.
Ideally, you'll bring:
5+ years of experience within the HVAC or building services industry.
Strong knowledge of mechanical plant, upgrades, retrofits, and asset lifecycle planning.
Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
Commercial awareness and an ability to identify customer value.
Confidence presenting solutions and influencing decision-makers.
A proactive, self-driven approach and a desire to win new business.
Experience working with building owners, consultants, contractors, or facility managers.
CRM experience (Salesforce highly regarded).
