R&D Electrical Systems & Test Engineer
Build. Test. Troubleshoot. Improve.
At Munters, we’re helping industries around the world become more energy efficient and sustainable through innovative air treatment solutions. Our technology supports critical applications across manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food, agriculture, and other industries.
We’re looking for a curious and hands-on R&D Electrical Systems & Test Engineer who enjoys solving problems, working with industrial equipment, and bringing new ideas to life.
This isn’t a role where you’ll spend all day behind a computer. You’ll have the opportunity to design electrical and control systems, work with PLCs and instrumentation, build and modify prototypes, troubleshoot equipment, conduct testing, and see your projects progress from an initial idea to a functioning system.
What You’ll Do
As part of our R&D team, you’ll:
- Design electrical control systems, including schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials, and electrical calculations
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs, primarily using Siemens and Allen-Bradley platforms
- Support the build, testing, modification, and commissioning of control panels, prototypes, and test systems
- Troubleshoot electrical and control systems involving PLCs, VFDs, sensors, motors, instrumentation, and industrial communications
- Install and configure controls hardware and electrical components
- Plan and conduct engineering tests, analyze data, document results, and recommend improvements
- Help maintain and continuously improve our R&D laboratory and testing capabilities
- Take ownership of projects from concept and design through testing and completion
- Collaborate with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, product management, service, and other teams to solve technical challenges
- Create and maintain drawings, BOMs, test procedures, reports, and other engineering documentation
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for someone with:
- A B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Approximately 2–5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, controls, automation, or industrial equipment
- Experience designing electrical control systems and creating schematics and wiring diagrams
- Experience working with PLC-based controls
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical and controls equipment
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- The ability and interest to work directly with equipment in an R&D, laboratory, manufacturing, and field environment
Even Better If You Have
- Experience with Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley PLCs
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical design software
- Knowledge of UL 508A and UL 1995
- Experience with VFDs, sensors, instrumentation, motors, industrial communications, or data acquisition systems
- Exposure to HVAC, air-handling, or industrial dehumidification equipment
- Experience with SolidWorks
These are valuable additions, but we recognize that great candidates may not check every box.
What Will Help You Succeed
You’ll enjoy this role if you’re someone who:
- Likes to build, test, troubleshoot, and figure out how things work
- Enjoys a mix of computer-based engineering and hands-on work
- Takes ownership and follows projects through to completion
- Is curious, resourceful, and comfortable tackling unfamiliar technical problems
- Wants to learn new controls technologies and PLC platforms
- Enjoys collaborating with different engineering and business teams
- Can adapt as R&D priorities and technical challenges evolve
Additional Details
- Occasional travel of approximately 5%
- Hands-on work with electrical systems, laboratory/test equipment, prototypes, and industrial equipment is an important part of the position
Why This Opportunity?
T
his role offers the chance to do more than one type of electrical engineering. You’ll have exposure to electrical design, controls programming, testing, troubleshooting, instrumentation, prototype development, and product development, giving you the opportunity to see and influence projects throughout the engineering lifecycle.
If you’re an engineer who likes combining design work with hands-on problem solving and wants to see your ideas turn into real-world systems, we’d like to hear from you.
Munters is an equal opportunity employer. Employment offers are contingent upon applicable pre-employment drug testing and background checks.
