In this environment, the Automation Engineer will play a critical role in improving productivity, reducing waste, enhancing process standardization, and implementing Lean manufacturing initiatives that enable our operations to meet growing customer demand.
To support these objectives, the Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting automation and control systems that improve operational efficiency, product quality, safety, and reliability. The role works collaboratively across engineering, maintenance, operations, and IT teams to analyze processes, troubleshoot control system issues, and develop solutions that meet both business and technical requirements.
By combining automation expertise with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, the position ensures that automated equipment and systems perform effectively throughout their lifecycle—from initial concept and design through commissioning and validation to ongoing support and continuous improvement.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with automation integrators on new equipment installation, startup, commissioning, testing, process validation (SAT)
- Analyze automation system performance and implement control system modifications to optimize operability, maintainability, productivity and uptime
- Perform root-cause analysis on equipment failures and implement corrective actions
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance to identify opportunities for equipment improvement
- Program, maintain, optimize and troubleshoot automation controls systems, including PLC, robots, communication networks, sensors and actuators
- Lead and support troubleshooting activities during equipment downtime events
- Update and maintain control system documentation, including wiring diagrams, schematics and PLC and robot backups
- Ensure the safety of automated systems by maintaining safety programming and validating the performance of safety functions after repairs or modifications
- Coach and train maintenance personnel on automation system operation and troubleshooting
- Support capital projects, new equipment installations and line improvement initiatives
- Train production personnel on safe operation and interaction with automated equipment
- Lead and facilitate Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to identify risks and implement preventive controls
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain) to resolve process issues and improve performance
- Support new product introduction (NPI) and process transfers, ensuring robust and scalable manufacturing processes
- Ensure compliance with EHS, quality standards, and company procedures
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or similar engineering field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in robotic and or automation projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong PLC programming knowledge
Desired Characteristics
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan and execute programs.
- Strong PLC programming skills (experience with Rockwell Studio 5000 Logix Designer preferred)
- Excellent troubleshooting abilities, capable of diagnosing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, software, and sensor issues
- Thorough working knowledge of industrial control devices including sensors, vision systems, safety devices, VFD and servo drives, PLC and pneumatic components
- Robot operation, programming and troubleshooting experience (Fanuc experience preferred)
- Experience with HMI screen development (WinCC experience preferred)
- Vision system application, programming and configuration experience
- Experience with industrial communication networks
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics and fluid power diagrams
- Ability to troubleshoot and support complex automated manufacturing systems in a production environment
- Experience with PFMEA & Problem Solving Tools

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $81,700.00 and $136,700.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
