Senior Account Representative, SMB (South)

The Company

PayPal has been revolutionizing commerce globally for more than 25 years. Creating innovative experiences that make moving money, selling, and shopping simple, personalized, and secure, PayPal empowers consumers and businesses in approximately 200 markets to join and thrive in the global economy.

We operate a global, two-sided network at scale that connects hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers. We help merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online or in person. PayPal is more than a connection to third-party payment networks. We provide proprietary payment solutions accepted by merchants that enable the completion of payments on our platform on behalf of our customers.

We offer our customers the flexibility to use their accounts to purchase and receive payments for goods and services, as well as the ability to transfer and withdraw funds. We enable consumers to exchange funds more safely with merchants using a variety of funding sources, which may include a bank account, a PayPal or Venmo account balance, PayPal and Venmo branded credit products, a credit card, a debit card, certain cryptocurrencies, or other stored value products such as gift cards, and eligible credit card rewards.  Our PayPal, Venmo, and Xoom products also make it safer and simpler for friends and family to transfer funds to each other. We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Our beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day.  We live each day guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Together, our values ensure that we work together as one global team with our customers at the center of everything we do – and they push us to ensure we take care of ourselves, each other, and our communities.

Job Summary:

As PayPal continues its mission to revolutionize commerce, we’re looking for a driven Senior Account Representative to join our Small and Medium Business Sales team in Germany, with a focus on the Southern region.

Small businesses are the engine of local economies everywhere, and PayPal’s SMB team helps them compete on a bigger stage. In this role, you’ll own the end-to-end commercial relationships for a portfolio of around 80 of our higher-value SMB merchants.

You’ll proactively identify opportunities to deepen relationships, expand product adoption and solve merchant needs to protect and grow transaction margin. It’s a role for someone who wants real ownership, from spotting the next growth opportunity to working through merchant challenges where there isn’t always an established playbook.

Please note that our German headquarters is located in Berlin, so this is a virtual role for candidates based in Southern Germany.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

• Collaborate internally to influence process quality and efficiency.
• Determine appropriate actions and consider alternative solutions.
• Acquire, manage, and expand relationships with small and medium-sized merchants.
• Use analytical skills and judgment to recommend best solutions.
• Influence through defined processes and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

What You’ll Do

You’ll take ownership of a high-value merchant portfolio, combining commercial strategy, data-driven prioritisation and strong cross-functional execution. In practice, you'll:

• Own the commercial relationship with your merchants, working closely with colleagues across PayPal to deliver strong end-to-end outcomes.
• Develop tailored account plans and commercial strategies for these strategically important merchants.
• Use AI-powered tools to identify growth, cross-sell and risk signals across your portfolio.
• Keep pipeline, forecast and portfolio health reporting accurate, and support less experienced AM colleagues by sharing what works.
• Bring together the right internal teams to resolve merchant needs and work through ambiguous issues where no established playbook exists.

What We’re Looking For

To succeed in this role, you’ll combine strong commercial judgement with a proactive approach to account growth and the ability to navigate complexity while keeping the merchant at the centre of your decisions.

• A track record of owning high-value or strategic customer relationships and the commercial outcomes that come with them.
• Quantifiable examples of retaining and growing a complex book of business through cross-sell, upsell or wallet-share growth.
• Comfortable using AI and commercial data to prioritise opportunities, focus your time and intervene early where there is a risk of churn or decline.
• A problem-solver who can work beyond standard playbooks, weigh alternatives and reach commercially sound outcomes on ambiguous merchant issues.
• A strong internal collaborator who can mobilise partners across the business, maintain clear account plans and forecasts, and reliably close out actions.

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
• Professional fluency in German, enabling you to build strong customer relationships and lead effective commercial conversations.
