Job Description – Senior DevOps Engineer (Cloud | GCP | Harness | Backstage)
Position: Senior DevOps Engineer
Location: Hyderabad
Experience: 7 – 12 Years
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior DevOps Engineer to design, implement, and manage scalable cloud infrastructure and developer platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), modern DevOps practices, and hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Harness, along with exposure to Backstage (developer portal) and strong Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) capabilities.
The role focuses on improving system reliability, enhancing developer productivity, and driving automation and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud & Platform Engineering
- Design, build, and manage scalable and secure cloud infrastructure on GCP (preferred) or AWS/Azure
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform
- Optimise cost, performance, and availability
- Manage Kubernetes-based container platforms (GKE preferred)
DevOps & CI/CD
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Harness or similar tools
- Automate build, testing, and deployment workflows
- Implement GitOps practices and advanced deployment strategies
- Improve developer experience through automation
Developer Platform (Backstage)
- Implement and manage Backstage Developer Portal
- Build service catalogues, templates, and plugins
- Enable self-service infrastructure onboarding
SRE & Observability
- Apply SRE principles to improve reliability and scalability
- Define SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks
- Lead incident management and RCA
Security & Compliance
- Embed DevSecOps practices across SDLC
- Manage secrets and ensure infrastructure security compliance
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with cross-functional teams
- Mentor junior engineers
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives

- Strong expertise in GCP (Compute, GKE, IAM, Networking)
- Experience with Kubernetes and containerisation
- Hands-on experience with Terraform (mandatory)
- CI/CD pipeline design and implementation experience
- Exposure to Backstage or similar developer platforms
- Strong understanding of SRE principles and production support
- Proficiency in scripting/programming (Python, Go, Bash, or Java)
Preferred Qualifications
- GCP certifications (e.g., Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer)
- Experience with service mesh (Istio, Linkerd)
- Exposure to policy-as-code tools (OPA, Kyverno)
- Understanding of FinOps practices
- Knowledge of Zero Trust security principles
