Xephyr builds sovereign AI agents and the data platforms that power them, for enterprises including Wesfarmers, Telstra, Bupa, Kmart, Garvan Institute and Sunnyfield. Your data doesn't move. Your governance rules apply. Every agent runs inside your environment. We are a team of under 20 people. We build three things: the data foundations and business context your agents need, custom agents trained on your data and workflows, and Xavier, our analytics agent that delivers trusted answers from your data fast. Xephyr is ISO 27001 certified and deploys on-premise or in your private cloud.
Our core values are human progress, iterate quickly, further together, be dependable, and have fun.
Everyone here is exceptional at what they do. Your contribution is visible, impact is real, and the expectations are high. This is what we expect of each other and what our clients pay for.
We operate with high trust and low bureaucracy. You will have direct access to the founders and genuine authority to shape how we build.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in software, data and AI, especially Generative AI, at an enterprise level. You will design and build production-grade systems, work directly with client stakeholders to deliver technical solutions they trust, and mentor engineers earlier in their careers. This is a hands-on build role with room to grow into technical leadership.
· Data and AI engineering: Design, develop and deploy solutions built around data, machine learning and Generative AI to drive actionable business outcomes.
· Software engineering: Design, implement and deploy software solutions, including the data integrations that feed AI.
· Generative AI projects: Contribute to initiatives using Generative AI to solve complex client challenges.
· Engineering process: Follow and champion repeatable, scalable engineering processes. Feed customer insights back into our product roadmap.
· Quality: Own the quality of your own work. You are a senior line of defence before it reaches the client.
· Client delivery: Work directly with client stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions they trust.
· Mentorship: Mentor engineers earlier in their careers. Review their work, support their development, and help hold the bar on delivery quality.
· 5+ years in technology engineering, including hands-on experience in software and cloud.
· Demonstrated ability to design and ship production software independently, with minimal oversight.
· Experience mentoring or supporting the development of engineers earlier in their careers.
· Strong command of Python and experience with strongly typed languages, infrastructure-as-code and containerisation.
· Ability to communicate technical solutions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
· Demonstrated delivery of AI/ML engineering projects and the data solutions that feed them.
· Startup or scaleup experience in a fast-paced technology business.
· Exposure to DevOps, networking or adjacent engineering disciplines.
· Experience with modern data platforms: Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Azure or GCP.
Skills and tools can be learned. These cannot:
· Curiosity that drives you to build, experiment and learn without being asked.
· Commercial pragmatism that solves the client's problem, not the most interesting one.
· Judgment that lets you pick an approach and move without perfect information.
· Directness that speaks the truth without ego getting in the way.
We will review strong applications fast.
