This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Engineer II, Proxy based in Canada.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to help develop and evolve a critical ingress proxy service that serves as the primary entry point to a modern browser security platform. In this role, you will contribute to extending security controls beyond human users to include AI agents, helping organizations protect their digital environments as AI adoption accelerates. You will design, build, and optimize highly available, secure, and high-performance networked systems. Working within a small, autonomous engineering team, you will have significant ownership over technical decisions and projects from initial design through production deployment. You will also help modernize existing infrastructure while maintaining reliability and scalability. This is an opportunity to influence the architecture of security-critical systems in a collaborative, low-process engineering environment.
- Design, develop, maintain, and operate the ingress proxy service, ensuring its reliability, scalability, security, and performance.
- Extend existing proxy capabilities to support secure traffic management and unified security controls for both human users and AI agents.
- Build and maintain production-grade systems using modern systems programming languages, particularly Rust or Go.
- Optimize network application performance, focusing on latency, throughput, resource efficiency, and scalable concurrency.
- Develop and operate asynchronous services capable of handling high-concurrency workloads while managing backpressure, cancellation, and non-blocking I/O challenges.
- Contribute to the modernization and gradual rewriting of legacy systems, ensuring safe migration strategies, controlled traffic transitions, and uninterrupted production operations.
- Make sound architectural and technical decisions, balancing performance, security, correctness, and long-term maintainability.
- Implement robust testing and verification strategies, including fuzzing, property-based testing, and integration testing, to identify potential vulnerabilities and validate system behavior under failure conditions.
- Apply security-oriented engineering practices, including threat modeling, vulnerability prevention, and data integrity protection across distributed environments.
- Take ownership of the complete software development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvements.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to understand customer needs, refine requirements, review code, and deliver effective technical solutions.
- Share technical knowledge, communicate architectural decisions, and promote engineering best practices across the team.
- Leverage AI and LLM-powered tools selectively to improve productivity while critically evaluating generated solutions for accuracy, maintainability, security, and architectural compatibility.
Requirements:
- At least 5 years of professional experience building, developing, and operating production-grade software systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with systems programming, preferably using Rust or Go, with an understanding of language features that support safety and reliability in critical applications.
- Working knowledge of HTTP and TLS protocols, with an understanding of network communication and secure data transmission.
- Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining high-performance networked applications, including latency and throughput optimization.
- Strong expertise in asynchronous programming, concurrency models, and building scalable services that handle high workloads in production environments.
- Experience implementing secure and reliable distributed systems, with knowledge of threat modeling, vulnerability mitigation, and data integrity practices.
- Proven ability to modernize legacy systems while maintaining production stability, including phased migrations, architectural refactoring, and technology trade-off evaluations.
- Familiarity with advanced testing methodologies, including fuzzing, property-based testing, and integration testing.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, with a focus on code quality, correctness, scalability, maintainability, and long-term technical sustainability.
- Ability to take ownership of complex technical projects and manage the full lifecycle of services and features.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to navigate complex engineering challenges and make informed technical decisions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain architectural choices, provide constructive feedback, and work effectively across engineering teams.
- Experience using AI-powered development tools and large language models thoughtfully, with the judgment to assess their outputs critically.
- A proactive, independent, and collaborative mindset, with a strong sense of accountability and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
Benefits:
- Fully remote working arrangement, with the opportunity to work from anywhere in Canada.
- Full-time employment within a research and development engineering organization.
- Opportunity to work on advanced cybersecurity technologies protecting both human and AI-driven digital environments.
- Significant technical ownership and autonomy within a small, collaborative engineering team.
- Opportunity to influence system architecture and contribute to the modernization of critical production infrastructure.
- Low-process engineering environment that encourages initiative, direct communication, and efficient execution.
- Collaboration with experienced engineers and opportunities to exchange technical knowledge and develop engineering expertise.
- Opportunity to contribute to innovative security solutions serving major global enterprises and government organizations.
